Here is my Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 20" barreled action sitting in a Mcmillan A-5. the A-5 is 75% OD 25% Black, Non ADJ, SA, VB channel, 1 bipod stud, 3 flush cups. I have a 0 MOA 1 piece month with Burris Rings and a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x Mil Dot scope ( to be upgraded next). On the front there is a Harris 6-9, notched leg, swivel pod and a Tac Ops (OD) stock pack in the rear.

I agree about the glass, I wanted to make sure i liked the mildot and shooting the gun... I will be getting new glass and rings and a new base but have to wait till i can afford it.

As far as the knob, been thinking the same thing.

I hear you. Building a bolt gun exactly how you want it is $$$$$. But you know when you get done that it is exactly how you wanted it. You have a great start. :tough:

Nice! I got the same gun. Sort of. What glass are you thinking? And on the bolt knob.....I stole a design from out of Brownells and made my own. Can't go wrong with added grip. And I allways liked those stocks. Just feels ........right.

Here is a little picture of my custom knob....

Love the stock, Remington 700's are one of the best shooting guns out of the box. as far as the scope goes NF is a good somewhat inexpensive way to go. Luepold makes some really awesome scopes and they have lifetime warranty. I got 3 Leupold's (MK4 LR-t for the 700, VXIII just setting around and FXII on the 10/22) they are very clear and bright scopes. US optics is $$$$$. Burris makes some decent rings, they are no Badgers but hey i got crap Leupolds on mine and they still work.

I have a NXS 3.5x15x50 w/Mildot. It's a good scope, but if you plan on competing at 1000 yards, 15x is a limiting factor. It is nice to be able to dial back to 3.5x, but even dialed back to 3.5 the field of view and ability to aquire targets is limited. Nice scope, but these have gotten very expensive.

15x is to short, what... I plan to shoot 1000 and beyond with a 10x man.... i am still young enough , I have good eyes...Also I do not plan on shooting at golf balls at 1000.... LOL

I am really leaning toward the Leupold scopes right now. But it will be a little while so I can do plenty of research first. maybe I will go and check some of the scopes out or someone will just offer to sell me theirs... say for a pack of gum?

+1 to above. I'm loving all my Leupolds. Got one on the gun I pictured earlier. I also have other brands but Leupolds customer service is top notch in my book and that is worth a lot to me.

Eric,

before you spend any money, come out to AEDC for the next 1000y match date. (TBD, but hopefully in Sept) and look through the scopes. There will probably be one of everything you're considering on the firing line. You'll be able to see for yourself which one has the clarity and resultion you find best.

I have a 3.5x10x M3 Leupold on my F TR rifle. It's uncompetitive on the F class target. It would be alright for a E Type, but hitting an E type isn't all that challanging at most ranges. I'm not saying it can't be competitive, as many of us shoot the Prone target with iron sights, but 10x is a much tougher road to take.

Also, if you plan on keeping the flat base, and moving away from the Burris rings (they work fine for target shooting) the Leupold MkIV 16X M1 is the only scope I know of with enough internal elevation to get a short barrel 308win to 1000y.

Range report.

Wow does this stock feel good. i set up the targets at 100 thinking I may have to sight in seeing I changed stocks. I set my Zero back to what it was the last time it was connected to the HS Precision LTR stock I sold.

I had loaded a few rounds to take to the range so I fired the first shot, Pretty much dead on. I shot 4 more rounds and the group ended up being .62 (5 shot group) I followed this group with a .55 (4 shot) and a .28 (3 shot) group(168's on this 3).

i ended the day with a 9 shot group that measured 1.1" Not to bad for shooting this stock for the first time.

The smooth feel of the shots, it is just one of those that you have to shoot to understand. To some it up... I love it!!!!!!
