thanks guys. I installed the MOJO sights and 90% detail stripped it and the bolt to get the last of the cosmoline out. I opened one of the ammo tins (a workout in itself) and prepped it for the range tommorow morning.

I'm going to cowboy up and shoot it w/o the rubber butt pad a couple of times. If the Russians can do it, So can I. (w/ a jacket on. I don't think they did much training in t-shirts and shorts in the former Soviet Union.:tough:

My wife shoots her Mosin without a recoil pad and she's half my size. You can do it. If you can't, be sure to let us know so we can have a chuckle.

I did shoot it today (t-shirt). Only 20 rounds though. Had to sight in 3 rifles today and the wife was getting impatient. (Marlin 795 w/ new Tech Sights and my TacSol .22 upper AGAIN) Love the Mojo sights. Only the rear though. I couldn't forsee me adapting to the front sight easily.

BTW.... That Remongton 700 in .270 I had and my 12 gauge seemed to kick harder than this MN. I luv shooting this rifle. :D:love::D:love::love:

I too have been "Mosinified".....I've bought an M44 and the 91/30 in the last week. If you don't fall in love with 'em cleaning out that cosmoline, you probably laughed when Ol' Yeller died.

My 91/30 is a '38 round receiver......I sure do like the looks of your hex.....Very nice!

That is a mighty fine Mosin rifle gun! Ugliest thing ever created but oh so fun to shoot.

I want another one.

If you man-up and shoot 60-80 rounds in one session, you'll need some support and those slip-on Mary-pads don't cut it. Get a proper Nancy-pad! ;) Replaces the stock buttplate and adds about an inch to the length. Well worth it, and no one knows you're cheating. :D

The Nancy-Pad:

MOSIN NAGAT M44 RUBBER RECOIL BUTT PAD

I'd say it was issued but rarely shot. The stock had some knicks in it and the bore was still dark and not pitted. I'd say VG condition. Compared to recent gun shows it was a steal @ $89 from AIM.

Refinished the stock. Though I am regretting it b/c the shellac Arsenal finish would have probably held up better in bad weather conditions. Oh well.....

So did you pay the $10 extra for hand selected? Trying to figure out if it is worth the extra...may pick up both the round and hex models soon.

Might as well grab a couple and some ammo while it is still cheap. Remember that SKS guns at one time sold for about the same. History has a knack for repeating itself.

$89? How much was your FFL fee and shipping?

Nice. Kinda hoping Santa will be a Soviet this year...

I'd say not if you plan on stripping the stock.

Rust, dents, scratched, poor bore, rough action...you know receiver stuff. Just trying to figure out about that Hand select option and if it is worth it or the current batch they got is OK.

Considering it can be shipped to my doorstep for $95 - it shouldn't matter, but just curious.

I shoot mine without the pad. The long ones don't kick quite as much as the M44's. Yours looks mighty good for the born on date. I have a hex from 1954.

Beautiful Crest! Congratulations! I just bought an Izhevsk round reciver at the Gunshow in Franklin two weeks ago. Shiny bore and in excellent condition. No accessories though. :-\ I have to find myself a Sling and Bayonet now. Bought 100 round of ammo at the Second or None celebration last weekend. Hope to get to shoot some this weekend.

It was $101 shipped from AIM and my FFL transfer was $25 plus $10 TICS. So $136 was the damage. And to think a $30 C&R could get it shipped to my door but I'm too lazy to fill out the paperwork.
