My 1st .308 handload results

I have measured the chamber using the OAL gauge. The bullet makes light contact with the rifling at 2.2265 using the comparator. I am going to finish some reloads tonight. I was wondering where you guys would start with the OAL given the 2.2265 ogive information. In the past I stay with the 2.80 OAL listed in my Lee manual. Maybe go to 2.81 on this batch?

Thanks

Take an empty case, and seat a bullet in it to what you think may be just off the lands. Keep the neck tension pretty loose. Smoke the bullet black with a cigarette lighter. Insert carefully. If the soot gets knocked off, its in the lands. Back the bullet down, repeat. You can get it right where you want it doing that with a little practice. The OAL will be whatever it is and will vary by barrel. You can start all the way forward or a pretty good ways back. There's no telling where the best accuracy will come from. It'll take alot of testing and alot of shooting to figure it out.

Thats a poor man's method, lol. I got that out of guns and ammo from a guy named russ peterson back when he wrote the reloading section in the 80's/90's. The magazine couldn't fall much further, imo. Its a relatively worthless rag now.
