Uselton Arms 1911's- Made in Gallatin?

Does anyone know who makes Uselton Arms 1911's. I have heard they are made in Gallatin from Caspian parts, and would like to see if that smith can work on my 1911 (I like some the work on the Uselton's, but can not afford to purchase the Slant 9 Compact) I did how ever pick up a Colt Defender from our friends in Greenbrier, TN.

I've asked him several times and heard him asked by others. His answers are always vague. If he wants $2,500+ for a "custom" 1911, then in my opinion he should be willing to say what parts his smith starts with and who the smith is. I could be convinced that the parts plus the skilled labor could be worth a couple or three thousand dollars, but if he won't say, then I can't be convinced.

Uselton's little secret is a quality smith who uses Caspian frames last I saw. They are mostly off the shelve items. I once wanted magwells for two 1911s and Sam had two Smith and Alexander magwells waiting to go into some of Uselton's guns. They were ordered from Midway! 2500 dollars for a "high end" 1911 means about 1200-1300 profit for Rick! Go see Sam or Phil at Goodlettsville Gun shop.

Good heavens, Usselton once told me to my face, that his slides and frames were custom made just for him and no others, and that he owned "the moulds" the they were made in.

He also told me that the Glock 23 that he carried while a deputy sheriff for Sumner Co. had over 40,000 rounds (certified) through it and never had a part replaced.

Usselton, you should start writing articles for gun magazines. I wish you well in your new business venture in Williamson County, but watch your mouth, sometimes you are your own worst enemy.

Keep your money and buy a custom 1911 from someone who appreciates you and your money, such as Joe @ Hero Gear's 1911 that is coming down the pipe. If you want a "Name brand" custom gun, myself or Joe would be happy to help you, I'm sure.

Talk to Jeff Walle, the 'smith at Guns & Leather. I've been really pleased with the work he's done for me and I hear he's very experienced with 1911s.

I will vouch for this as well. I have not shot one, but have played with/handled two of their fine examples - absolutely top-notch and with the options that are available, are up there with many top-tier firearms. I hope to one day have one, but have settled with Jeff @ HG doing alot of work on a Springfield of mine, instead.

This is his daily carry, and is uses and abuses it, so you can see how the finish has held up.

Rick (and another well known 1911 builder here in TN) are both full of ****.

I dont understand why they would flat out LIE to customers about where they source the parts for their guns.

I would think that customers would appreciate honesty from a dealer when discussing custom (or any for that matter) firearms.

Well I agree with Joe on this Rick cant even take down a 1911 by himself. Another for what its worth, Sam's the best I have ever seen with a 1911... Ask Jeff at G&L and he will tell you guys the same thing. If you want a lights out 1911 built give me a call and I'll hook you up with Sam personally. You can save lots of money doing it like this. But if you need one built you better hurry, he's fixing to get covered up and you will have to get in line.

NO comments on Usleton's, his reputation speaks for itself. However, Jeff at Guns and Leather has done work for me on a Colt Officers Model and some other firearms. I would not hesitate to use him for custom work.

If Uselton says he is "making" them then he is being dishonest. He is buying the parts and slapping them together. If he wasn't such a tool...it would be awfully entertaining to send someone who really knew their stuff to quiz him a little more about this.

Cool factoid that many may not know - If Uselton is using Caspian frames....they are actually built by Pine Tree Castings. Care to guess who Pine Tree castings is owned and run by? CLICK HERE

They do this in order to be a parts supplier without being seen as a competitor to their customers. It is not restricted to just guns either...they make brake parts for Porsche also.
