You can use John Sevier but you have to pay TWRA about $5.00 every time you go if you are not a member of VRPC and you can only go on certain days when they have range safety officers on the range. ORSA you have to be with or be a member to use the range except for matches, if you want to join ORSA I think you have to have a current member sponsor you. The best deal going is the City of Norris shooting range it has covered benches, a 200 yd rifle range and a 40 yd pistol bay you can buy a key for $25.00 a year at the police dept/fire station in Norris the only time the range is closed is during a couple of drawn deer hunts in the Norris Watershed. Hope this helps. J

Great. I'll check those out. Anyone been to the Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association? I'm thinking about joining.

I'm a member out there. If you are interested in joining give me a call at the office 865.483.1108 between 0900-1800 Mon-Sat and we'll set something up to get you sponsored.

How far is that from downtown? And is it easy to find the police/fire station?

Great, thanks for all the help. I'll definitely check out the Norris range. I'll probably join ORSA in a couple months when I get together enough coin for the membership dues.

It's about 26 miles from Downtown K-town. The police station is easy to find but the police are not always there. Norris is a small village and often there are no more than two cops on duty. About a year and a half ago I arrived there with 16-18 students in a carry permit class in tow just to find both officers leaving the station in a code three fashion. The dispatcher (in the second car) yelled out the window that they would be back shotly. So, for 25 minutes we waited until one of 'em pulled in with a dude hooked up in the back seat. Then we had another 10 min. wait for processing and paperwork. After placing this dude in a holding cell (Norris has no jail they take their prisoners to the county facility) we got everyone signed and then hit the road for the range up on the watershed.

If you have an annual pass this doesn't happen but I have been on that range there when I have not seen a soul for hours and at other times it's like a small pool hall but instead of placing your quarters on the table edge in line to claim next game you gotta put your range bag in the que behind a firing point and sit in your car with your hearing protection on.
