What about a 3.5 or 4" 1911 with an Officers frame? IIRC, the Commander is simply a full size 1911 - 3/4" of barrel. Same grip, which really doesn't help much if the butt of the gun is what you are trying to conceal. An Officers frame is shorter (from mag base to rear sight), and would be easier to hide. OAL is shorter also, and makes concealment easier if we are talking about OWB holsters. If you're sold on a 1911, seems like a no brainer.

Have to say... I been shooting a Para Carry 7 lately when my bud brings it to the range. That little "officer" sized .45 is one of the most accurate I have had in my hands. Did not know if I would like the DAO but it IS sweet. Really has me re-thinking my future 1911 purchases.

I had a Kimber Compact CDP II (Officer frame/4" barrel). Worst $990 I've ever spent, but I will admit, it was a 1-holer @ 10 yards.

I have a Para P-13. It is has the officer's frame with the commander's slide. Works out well. I also had a Wilson 4" on the officer's frame. That was a good pistol.

That said, for a small easy to hide gun I still go with a J frame. Specifically, a 342PD, but, the 442/642 would be as good (better for most people).
