Shotgun stock/recoil pad help needed

My neighbor purchased a Mossberg Maverick 12 ga. for home protection. While at the store, she insisted the fit was comfortable. Well, after a trip to the range today, it didn't take her long to realize she was wrong.

If the stock was just a few inches shorter, the fit would be great. My question is, do they make a youth-sized stock for the Maverick?

I thought about cutting the current stock down a few inches, but then what about the recoil pad? Would I be able to find one that will fit the new contour of the stock?

After removing the recoil pad, it appears I may be able to cut a few inches off, and could possibly still be able to use the screw hols inside the stock.

I've seen some of the adjustable tactical stocks, but I'm trying to make this as cheap on her as possible.

Anyone have any ideas?

MidwayUSA - Choate Mark 5 Conventional Buttstock Youth (11-3/4" Length of Pull) Mossberg 500, 600 Synthetic Black

Speedfeed makes a youth stock for the 500 also.

Any stock that will fit the Mossberg 500 will fit the Maverick 88.

That very well could be an option. Thanks!

I just went to YouTube and there is a video by Midway USA on how to shorten the stock and I saw another on how to fit the recoil pad.

Have fun!

I saw that video, but that stock was solid wood, and this stock is hollow synthetic. The screw holes go in several inches, so I don't think it will be a problem to shorten it. I'll probably need to reshape the recoil pad a bit, but that's OK.

It might be ugly but you could keep the last couple of inches of the stock if you remove material in between. I would think JBweld and duct tape would suffice till she can afford something better. Maybe someone has converted a youth shotgun to pistol grip and could donate the old stock, I'll reimburse the postage if you send it Priority Mail @ the Post Office.
