Shoot it or Sell it?

While going through my late father-in-law's stuff his wife found something nobody wanted, so she called me. I was kinda surprised when she handed me this,

a Model 10-5 and told me to get it out of the house.

As far as i can tell it has never been loaded,checkering on the grips an hammer are sharp as factory,no marks of any kind any where. didn't have the box or cleaning kit but i do have the owners manual from 1969.

i have 2 k frames already, there's no sentimental reason holding me back and i been thinking about this for about a month now,so what do you think,go on and let it go boom or ??????

Want to sell it? I have one exactly like it, was my grandfathers LEO carry. I love shooting my grandfathers gun occasionally, and using it single action it is deadly accurate with a sweet trigger and very pleasant to shoot. PM me if you want to sell it.

That's a really nice piece of history. I don't think it will ever be worth lots of money, but it's still a pretty cool piece of family history. Why would you put rounds through it now???? Just show it off as a weapon that's was owned by great ______ and has never been fired.

Shoot it! It's a shame to own a gun that never gets shot, that's what they were made to do. I don't want to buy it, but I'd love to have something old like that.

You need to shoot it. It is not going to hurt it and if you have a gun you need to know that you can use it if you have to. I would keep it loaded, too. It is a sweet piece. Take off the stocks and inspect under and inside for rust and stabilize it if found.

Blowing up the pic, judging by the wear ring on the cylinder, I'd say it's unlikely it hasn't been shot. It's in very nice condition, but not pristine (looks to be some pitting on it) enough not to enjoy it. You just got yourself a nice "like new" gun. Shoot it and pass it along to your kids and grandkids.

Shoot it...rare to find one in that condition, but since practically millions of them were made in one for or another for 100 years it isn't really considered a rare find

They are as ubiquitous as a glock or 10/22. VERY good gun. .38 special is, for some reason, becoming somewhat of an underrated cartridge.

I have never been able to sell any gun I have ever owned. I call it enjoying a fun sport and collecting. My wife calls it a sickness.

i carried a model 10 along time ago, enough too cause me to spend much time getting my hip realigned.

the reason i didn't list the store it option was that i have all my revolvers stored away now and haven't even looked at them for two years. i guess the state will fight over them when i'm gone, no one else will.

i agree that it's not a rare gun, maybe only the condition it's in for that age is

concerning the wear ring on the cylinder i've seen much worse on revolvers in show cases at gun shops.

i know i shoulda took better/more pictures, even wiped it off before hand, when i said i didn't think it had been fired, i was looking at the hammer nose and it shows no discoloration at all, also none of the finish has changed on the front of the cylinder or the rear of the barrel.

i'll post it in the classifieds with more pictures later on..
