The prices of these things are all over the place.

What do I need to easily be able to see .308 holes in a target at 300 yards?

I want to put my money in guns and scopes; this is where I want to spend the absolute minimum to get the job done. :D

Try looking at Sportsmansguide. they have a lot of spotting scopes that are 60-80mm with a magnification from 20-60 for a descent price. they aren't the best scopes but they should be enough to see a 30 cal hole at 300 and not break the bank. you might even be able to try some cheaper ones out at bass pro or academy to see if you like them before you buy.

Ive got one of the Burris Spotters. Gave around $200 for it. It works great. Very bright. I can spot holes clearly at 25 or 30 x. Here's a picture. I would shop around for the best buy.

Burris 15-45x60 Landmark Spotter

You will need a tripod also, so be thinking about that.

Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

A tip a friend gave me that works pretty well is to use a camcorder. A lot of camcoders have digital zooms out past 200x. I set up an older sony camcorder on a tripod and could see targets at 200 yards with no problem.
