Is Monarch Brand 7.62x39mm corrosive??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I've been trying to get 100% conformation if the Monarch brand 7.62x39mm ammo sold by Academy Sports is corrosive or not. It is made in Russia at the Barnaul plant from what I can tell. There is no info on the box either way.

Most of the internet searching I've done seems to say that it's non-corrosive but I've seen some info that said it was. I sent Academy an email about a week ago with the question. They didn't know but would check. No info back yet and I doubt if I ever will.

Anybody know for sure?

I've heard one way to distinguish corrosive primers from non is their color. The gray colored primers are corrosive, while the gold colored ones are not. Of course this could be random internet musings so take it with a grain of salt.

No it is not. It is the same stuff as Wolf. They've changed colors, but it used to be that the blue box stuff was Barnaul and the green box stuff was Serbian. Neither are supposed to be corrosive.

color of primers isn't an indicator as far as I know. I have corrosive Yugo stuff with a gold primer. Same as my non-corrosive Barnaul stuff.
