My HCP kept me from beating down a jerk (rant)

It's been an eventful morning.

My wife rides a big scooter as her primary transport.

I was at the park with the dog when she calls to tell me she was hit from behind in traffic! She was ok, but shaken up and wanted me to check out the bike.

When I get there, I find my wife, a witness and the jack ass who hit her on scene. Apparently my wife was in the left lane, he was in right lane behind another car (the witness) and decided the car wasn't moving fast enough. He broke left, accelerating, (while looking DOWN in the car, according to witness) and immediately bumped my wife from behind, who he obviously didn't see because he WASN'T LOOKING!

She did a great job, accelerating hard, keeping the bike upright and then getting off the road.

When I got there, he was more concerned with the damage he did to his SUV when he over corrected into the curb than with the fact he could have just killed my wife.

I was SEETHING with rage, and the only thing probably keeping me from pushing him in traffic was the fact that both her and I carry, and knowing how badly an altercation could complicate things.

Luckily, a local PD unit showed up right behind me.

Why the hell can't people just pay attention to their driving?!?

(rant off)

I have to admit that carrying my handgun probably keeps me out of trouble pretty often. I take it VERY seriously. I tend to just let things roll off my back and walk away.

The LEO was good. Cleveland PD. The guy didn't give him any lip, and I managed to stay calm and thank him. He took the witness statement word for word, so I know this guy's insurance will pay out, but I don't think he cited him for anything, but he sent us on our way while he was still roadside with the ******* so who knows. Maybe he was going to dress him down after we left.

yeah. 10 years ago, I'd probably have leveled the idiot. Age, and the HCP responsibility helps.

Glad that your wife is OK,the man that hit her was looking down at the time?He was probably too busy paying attention to a incoming text to see her, just a guess mind you,I pay attention to people on their walkie talkies when I am driving, you never can tell if their actually paying attention to their surroundings, and most of them are not.

Yeah, the witness said she watched him swerve left to get out from behind her car and accelerate, WHILE looking down to the right. He then bumped my wife, panicked, over corrected to the right and tore up his right front wheel on the curb.

My wife did a great job or not hitting the brakes, accelerating and not ending up under his bumper.

She's sore now, but ok. The bike....ehh, who cares really, but it will need work. Luckily she was on the scooter, not a bike like mine. He contacted plastic, and not the wheel. If he had contacted the wheel directly, it could have jerked/thrown her right away.
