Urgent! Park Carry on agenda AGAIN at City of Lebanon on 9/1

Well, sort of. Council member Cathy Warmath is introducing a resolution tommorow (9/1) that would at make the park carry ban only apply when you are actually IN the boundry of apark or ballfield. This would at least allow you to have your carry weapon with you on the way to a park and leave it in the car without breaking the law. Due to the overly broad language of the original resolution, one could possibly have inferred that walking on a sidewalk with a concealed hangun and permit would have violated the law since it was city property.

Additionally, this resolution would allow the legal carrying of handguns to carry on a walking trail (other than the one at Don Fox park)

Please attend the City Council Meeting at 6pm on Tuesday 9/1 at City Hall and show your support. They allow citizen comment at the beginning of the meeting for all topics, so you must be there at 6pm in order to get your two cents in. You are not allowed to talk once the proceedings get underway.

Its not all of what we want, but its better than the current law that would go into effect.

Without seeing the exact wording this is a guess... but it sounds as if this resolution would be illegal under state law.

They must open the entire park or close the entire park, they can not open/close certain parts of said park.

JayC is right. They can only totally op-out the park or none of it. This is exactly why all counties/cities need to just be forced to open up ALL the public property to legal carry.

I am not a lawyer, but there were two issues with the original resolution

1) defining where does the park boundry begin? Does it include or exclude the parking lot?

2) the original resolution banned guns on city property. Does this include sidewalks?

This new resolution would better clarify the intent of the original and also expand our guns rights (slightly). It beats leaving it alone.

IMHO the better way to handle this is to vote out the elected folks who voted for closing the parks in anyway shape or form. We'll get all the parks completely open and probably most county/city property in the next legislative session.

Just remember all these "pro-2A" politicians voting against the rights of law abiding citizens to carry when it comes time to re-elect them.

Agree 100%

Also - the opt out is not forever - a city can choose to opt back in at any time.

I suspect before this time next year opt out will be gone completely. We're already hearing rumbling from legislators that they may just do away with local opt out.

And hopefully while we're at it, we can get them to take away 1359 opt out for local government buildings.
