Here's the law:

ATF Online - Firearms FAQs

Short of the long: Any transfers between individuals who reside in different states must go through a FFL.

Your statement allows me to take a hangun to another state and sell it to a person who resides their. As long as that person is not a licensed collector of C/O. That is what the law you quoted as saying, correct?

B1) To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA? [back]

A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector.

[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]

This is the section he was referring to. It states that you can sell any firearm to anyone that is a resident of the same state as you.

You can sent a C/R firearm to a C/R collector in another state. All other firearms must be sent to an FFL holder in that state.

I think that, it is legal for me to carry my own firearm to another state, and then sell it to a legal resident at that state?

It’s an interstate transfer and falls under the Federal law. It doesn’t matter if you mailed it sent it on a bus or walked it across the border; it is Federal jurisdiction.

Not only that, but if you ship your handgun to anyone (FFL or private individual) you are required by federal law to notify the carrier it is a firearm. At that point unless you are shipping to an FFL it isn’t going anywhere.

And sometimes even if you are shipping to an FFL it isn’t going anywhere.

If you move to that state, yes. You have to be residents of the same state.

So as I understand it from reading this thing.

You cannot sell any gun across state lines without a FFL being involved.

Buying a handgun from out of state must involve a TN FFL. A long gun from out of state must also go through a TN FFL unless you physically purchase it while out of state at a FFL.

You beat me to it. ;)

No kidding...It is a shame that such scary ignorance of federal gun law even exists on a forum of this type.

FOLKS LISTEN...don't take another persons advice when the consequences can result in you going to jail for a couple of years. Call an FFL, the ATF, or do the research yourself.

Out of state + handgun = FFL (Simple as that!)

;) clarify one thing... "Buying a handgun from out of state must involve a TN FFL"

should be

"Buying OR SELLING a handgun from out of state must involve a FFL" (buying, you need a TN FFL...selling, you ship to an FFL in the purchasers state ONLY)

Moral? if a handgun crosses state lines for purchase or sale it requires an FFL

A long gun from out of state must also go through a TN FFL unless you physically purchase it while out of state at a FFL.

YES SIR!!!!
