The thread that I recently came across was about Mountain Lions in Tennessee. That has got me thinking what your opinions are on a large apelike creature stalking through the forest say around oh....Morgan County? Anyone believe in such a feller?

No I haven't been to a family reunion with a bunch of shirtless hairy rednecks...I could see the misidentification of a new biological entity.

Well here's my contribution to this thred, but before I tell this tale I wish to issue a disclaimer as to not get ridiculed.

When I was a child my family used to have get togethers for special occasions, after we had our huge dinner ( that's for another post, you would not believe the home cooking") we would gather around mt paternal Grandmother and she would tell us stories of haunts.

One story she told was of her cousin, who coon hunted. He was known about Sevier County about his ability and his love for his dogs. As I remember the story he was sitting by his fire one night listening to his dog's run, when something started circleing him and his fire. He kept the fire between him and whatever was stalking him for several hours until it went away. What really sticks in my memory was that my Grandmother refered to what was stalking him as a 'Woolybugger". I didn't hear this name again until many years later when I read a book and learned that was the name that the mountain folk in East Tn gave to what we now call a Skunk Ape or Bigfoot

By the way he was so scared he ran home and would not try and find his dogs until after the next morning

Don't worry about ridicule Bluemax there are stories like that in my family too. My dad is the one who intrigues me with his "encounter." Him and his buddy where out collecting rocks in Morgan County to build a deck with. The pretty river rock stuff. When they heard a funny snort and heavy thudding. He then went back to his truck to get his pistol and continued loading rocks. Then there was a funny knocking on a tree just above the spot they were at and something went crashing off in the woods. They went and investigated and this "thing" didn't run around trees but through the trees. It tore one tree out of the ground that was about a foot in diameter. They didn't see any tracks or anything but did get the heck outta there. Makes me wonder what it was. I have rules out bear because a black bear isn't gonna tear a tree straight outta the ground but boar I do not know anything about.
