What scents do you all use? Do you put your scents out on opening day? Where do you put your scents, clothes, rags, etc?? Thanks, Roy

I think scent control is a good thing, but cover scents are way over done by most people. I do believe that a Tinks #69 scent works well at the right time of year, but in the right set up. Opening day I don't use anything other than a scent eliminator. If you have done your homework, finding food source, trails, ect. you do just fine.

I keep Code Blue doe in heat with me in a scent bomb and use it just before and during the rut.

I do believe in Fox Pee for a cover scent. I only use it on the the bottoms of my boots before walking into the woods. Just a spray or two to help cover my scent trail. I have hung the pine scent wafers from my stand years ago, but I don't think they do much.

I usually keep my clothes in a giant ziploc storage bag with a few cedar limbs or pine limbs. I use scent free laundry detergent or just baking soda. I use the hunter's soap and don't wear deodorant or other smelly products.

Even though I do all of this, I believe that a deer can still smell you if they are downwind. I hunt the wind, always. However, like any hunter knows, sometimes the wind whirls around. The less scent I put in the woods the better.

I wash my clothes in a earth scented soap and dryer sheet. Then put the sheet in a scent proof bag and dont put them on until I get ready to walk away from the truck into the woods. As far as doe pee if I use anything at all before the rut it would be Tinks #1 doe pee. It is just a curosity scent and I have seen deer come right up and put there nose on the scent bomb.

I've used turpentine on my boots & clothes. Not a whole quart, just dampen a rag and wipe over clothes and boots. If there are pines in the area, it's a pretty natureal scent. Heard/read about this 20+ years ago.

Doesn't get much play, since there's not much money to be made telling people to buy a $2 pint of turpentine every 2 or 3 years.

I use skunk scent, but do not apply it directly to your clothes. Put up three scent wicks in a triangle and set in the middle of triangle. Works pretty darn good imho.

I bet it keeps the other hunters away too.

a dead skunk on a drag works fantastic if you can bare the smell your self. with out fail i can find one on the road somewhere on the way to the honey hole. the smell keeps other hunters away also! so +2 for the skunk

Dang...gives me a good idea to take my Mounted (stuffed if you will) skunk hunting with me and sit him near the area I hunt to keep other hunters away! AWESOME IDEA!!!! Throw in a little "essence of polecat" and PRESTO! Actually I use nothing until the rut and then I use "Tinks". I do let the wind dictate where I set up though.
