Took My 1911 to the Lumber Yard

I have been wanting to make some grips for my 1911 and decided to try it with some scrap oak before I used the expensive stuff. Here are some pix of my first attempt. I actually think they look ok in oak, kind of reminds me something the army might have done. What do you think?

Being a woodworker, and a lover of Oak, I can't help but love those grips. :hiding:

You might also consider Hickory or Pecan for woods that are tougher than nails (literally) and beautiful to boot.
