Shotgun Choke Thread Cleaning

Dear folks:______________

Just came into possession of a removable choke shotgun and several choke tubes. The original tube with the shotgun was evidently an "aftermarket" and a little bit short in length. When i traded it out with another choke; the new choke tube was evidently a little bit longer and seemed to jamb into the thread area before threading flush with the end of the barrel -- my guess is that it jambed on powder residue and other stuff in the end of the thread area. Looks like the choke is standing off about 3/32 or so. The big question is:

How do i go about cleaning up the thread area and what do i use to do it with?

Thanks in advance,

LEROY

I'd use kerosine or gasoline on it with a brass toothbrush. Just be careful not to bung up the threads.

It may have been shot with the choke not turned in tight, they tend to work loose. So it could be plastic from wads shaved off and melted in there.

I too have seen what mugster describes above as well as lead build up. I'd suggest the use of o dentil pick. Run it around the circumference right at the drop off of the barrel (smooth part) and the threads. Then inspect the shavings/debris. I'd start with Hoppe's and a brass brush first, allowing the area to stay saturated with Hoppe's for two hours or more. Good Luck.

Dear folks:_____________

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I've just been too lazy to clean the threads up yet; but when i do i will know what to do.

Kind regards,
