TFA Nashville Chapter Meeting Announcement

Tuesday, October 16th 2007. 6:30pm - 8:00pm

***********************************************************************************

Please join us for the next regularly scheduled meeting of the TFA Nashville Chapter on Tuesday, October 16th from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. This meeting will be held at the offices of the Academy of Personal Protection and Safety (APPS) which is located near the intersections of I-24 and I-40.

Click here for an interactive map and driving directions.

The guest speaker for this meeting will be lawyer and TFA Executive Director, John Harris. Mr. Harris will be delivering a topical discussion of what Tennessee handgun carry permit holders should do in those crucial minutes and hours following a self-defense shooting. This topic gets discussed frequently on the Internet but how much of what you have read has been good advice and how much of it would get you into deep trouble? Come prepared to hear the straight scoop from one of the lawyers who has been most instrumental in shaping recent Tennessee firearms law.

FUTURE MEETINGS

It was decided at the September 18th meeting that henceforth the Nashville Chapter will meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month. These meetings will commence at 6:30pm and run until 8:30pm and will be held at the APPS offices unless advance notice is given to the contrary. If there is ever a doubt as to whether we will have a chapter meeting for a given month, the answer is YES! 3rd Tuesday, 6:30pm.

OFFICER ELECTIONS 2008

It was also decided at the September 18th meeting that the Nashville Chapter will elect officers for the 2008 calendar year. Nominations for officer positions will be taken at the January 2008 meeting. The February 2008 meeting will consist of the nominees being given equal time at the podium to express why they feel that they are a good candidate for the job, and immediately following the club members shall vote and elect the officers.

The positions that will be voted upon are:

  1. Chapter President
  2. Chapter Vice President
  3. Chapter Secretary / Treasurer
  4. Chapter Sargent at Arms

If you would like to get involved from any of these aspects, please be sure to attend the meetings leading up to the elections!

YOUR PRESENCE IS NEEDED!

Folks, this chapter really needs warm bodies in seats on the meeting nights. I realize that it is a long haul for some of you to get there and that we've all got "life" pressing in on us and demanding our time for other things... but the simple fact of the matter is that without participation from the members, the Nashville chapter will eventually wither and die again.

We don't want that to happen - right?

PLEASE. Mark it on your calendar to be there in October. We are moving toward electing chapter officers in the first of 2008 and we are trying to plot the course of direction for the months ahead. I promise we aren't going to sit around and waste your time at these meetings. We hope to see you there!

Well as luck would have it... I was not able to leave work early enough this evening to attend. If would be nice if someone who did would post a recap.

Damn, I missed that the meeting was last night. I would have asked someone to look at the constitution and bylaws for me that John says we can see at the meetings.

John spent most of the meeting talking about the current carry laws. Some of the changes that need to be made, problems with the current castle doctrine law. They were also told after the East Nashville meeting the Rabbi posted about that local LEOs are basically telling Serpas to lay off the anti gun stuff, that they don't have a problem with citizens being armed. (Seeing as he had my AOW paperwok back to me in a day...I'm thinking he's listening to someone)

Also...as an interesting sidenote to the above, a lot of the Metro buildings that used to be posted are no longer. According to John, there seems to be a change in thinking. Currently the only places prohibited by statute are court rooms, everything else must be posted. The example he used was the building where the E Nashville meeting was held. The attendees would have been within their rights (and the law) if they carried because it wasn't posted.

We also talked about a TFA Class Three meet on private property. One of the ideas were to have a Class 3 owner bring his toys in and have a Q&A session about C3 regs and whatnot. Then, around springtime have a Class 3 shoot along with a seminar having John do a in depth Q&A session with non TFA members if we can draw in enough interest.

Mars...if you want to look at the constitution and the bylaws for whatever reason, you can come to a meeting without joining the TFA. If you like what you see...then consider joining.

Tungsten..you were missed...I was given credit for the work you did on the email thing :-)

The odd part of the meeting was...Perry sat in the very back row. Kind of odd for a president.

I really hate that I missed the meeting last night.

I was at work until nearly 6:50 and by the time I left, I was well past the exit ramp I would have needed to take when I remembered that the meeting was happening. This week and the past two have just been completely FUBAR for me.

I'll do my best to be at the November meeting. Was an agenda for it discussed?

Actually I tried to help form a Tri-Cities chapter at one time.

I don't understand why the TFA constitution and bylaws are such a deep dark secret. Why not post them on the TFA website?

I couldn't make it. I was putting fires out.

You too eh?

Oh wait... you're probably talking literally instead of figuratively.

I don't think they're website has been updated in a LONG time. From talking to John last night it's all database driven, and the DB admin is now on active duty. The last change was made in (I think) 2004.
