This is a WMA, you will need a WMA permit plus the hunting license. Depending where this land is, it may or may not be open to hunting.

To be more specific to those in the Nashville area i know of the section down in the Lavergne area but i'm talking about the scattered areas from seven points on around the other side of lake towards Long Hunter state park. The maps show huntable areas but i've fished all over that area for years and have never seen anyone hunting that i can remember.

Getting access is the reason, without a boat one has to cross private property in most areas. I have been in some of these areas squirrel hunting, lots of good hunting areas, they are just land locked without a boat.

Its a hassle at best. Unless you really scout the land for house's before you hunt. You can walk onto private property and have problems.

You probably already have these but here are the 2009 TWRA Maps.

TWRA GIS - Wildlife Management Area Index

You can get PDF files or what I normally do is download google earth and then the KML Maps and add them to google earth,

You can get a good view of all the areas and find access to just about all of them.

TWRA GIS - Download WMA Data

You can also call the TWRA officer in Region 2, they have always answered any questions I have.

I hunted last Turkey season on a few of the WMA's around Priest, planning on doing the same for Deer season being I don't have any access to land.

I went to this link:

TWRA GIS - Wildlife Management Area Index

and got an error:

The requested URL /twra/gis/wmapdf/Percy Priest - South.pdf was not found on this server.

I went to the Middle and changed it to South and got it to pull up.

Google Earth gives you a better view I think but these are nice to print out.

You can also go to Street View with Google Earth and check the roads along the WMA's and find the parking areas. I've found just about every place I enter the woods at by looking at those.

For some reason I was unable to get any of these to pull up. I'm interested in possibly hunting some in this area too, but don't know the WMA boundaries. Are these areas pretty much defined in the magazine "Tennessee Outdoor News", that we pick up at the ammo counter at Wally World?

Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson

The best way to get them is by running google earth, then download and open the file with the Earth program,

It'll show you all the areas in detail

Otherwise try this link and see if you can open these, just click on the North, Middle or South and the should open for you.

TWRA GIS - Region 2 WMAs

Hope that works.

Nope, but you can get in touch with the TWRA and they will get you maps of the different WMA's. Just remember to ask super nice. ;)

I called the TWRA office last month about that and they said they don't track the deer harvest at the Priest Lake WMA.

Every time I checked a deer in they didn't know what WMA to put it under because Priest Lake isn't listed.

When I talked to them they said just tell the check in station to put it under 099 because they don't track it.

Seemed odd to me but maybe there is a reason.

I've seen a ton of sign in Priest WMA right off of Pinhook Dr, but never seen a deer there. :D

Really, I stared getting up a little earlier and going to Cheatam WMA. Definitely worth the drive.:)

may have to give that a try..
