Say guten tag to my little German friend... Heckler & Koch gun porn

I've been trying to find a polymer frame .45ACP that I liked enough to consider carrying. I had an affair with a Glock 21 SF but just couldn't really get used to it for some reason. I tried to convince my wife that maybe an M&P 45 would be fun, but she said we had enough M&P automatics in the house as is.

Today I had a visit with my friend Daniel up at Guns & Leather in Greenbrier and he set me up with this...

;)

I ordered a leather inside the waistband holster from TT Gunleather over the weekend, knowing good and well that this was going to end up following me home, but the wait on them is somewhere around 12-14 weeks.

I'll probably pick up a kydex OWB holster from Comp-Tac in the meantime just so that I will have the option of carrying it sooner than the end of the year. I really wish there wasn't such a long delay on custom leather, but even at 3 months it is a faster alternative than Milt Sparks. Sooner or later some traditional tritium sights will make their way onto it as well. I'll live with the kooky glow-in-the-dark sights at least until I have a holster for the gun.

Out of sheer curiosity did you notice the bullet is in the mag backwards. Other than that great gun. I love my H&K.

I'm at over 5 months on one from Tim, ordered 3/11/09.

I see on his site he's working on orders 3/2 - 3/10.

So, finally getting close.

Nice choice David!! I was up there yesterday and didn't realize how many HK's they had. Makes me want to hold on to my P2000 vs selling it.

Nette Waffe!!!!

It's a bit of homage to a gaff that an HK annual came out with a few years ago. Whomever did their marketing photo set up a mag with a round in backwards accidentally. It became rather infamous in the HK circle, so... it's the only way to properly photograph an HK handgun now.

Edited to add, here is the photo:

I hadn't really. Apparently a guy on HKPro has found a case of these old annuals laying around, new, unopened and might be selling them with the proceeds to benefit a charity of some sort. I think it's a great bit of history, but I'm not sure I am amused enough to spend $25 or so on one of them either.

You said you were looking for polymer .45's, is there any reason why you haven't looked at an XD? Not that I'm questioning your judgement, I just want to know if there is a glaring deficiency that I am missing. I have kinda been looking at XD's because I like the grip and trigger safeties.

I just figured the backward bullet was a result of loading in the vicinity of the JD in the background. We've all heard about this combination. Perhaps a bottle of Weihenstaphaner Korbinian Dunkel Lager would have been safer. Oh, nice gun!

HK's are just great, well made european guns. Check one out and compare it to an XD and you'll see the differences.

Don't get me wrong, XD's are great guns, as are Glocks, M&P's, etc But just something about HK's.

I used to own an XD45 Compact. Used to. Got rid of it for better firearms. I've owned several XDs and will never go back down that road again. While I never had major problems out of them, I did not care for having to replace firing pin indicator roll pins every few hundred rounds or having to send them back to Springfield for penny ante service that I could have done myself were parts sold to individuals.

Big, big thumbs down for XDs from me. I cannot recommend them to anyone out of good conscience.

David, I do hope you bargained, demanded to know their cost, and made sure they didn't make more than $10, those greedy little bastards. :D

That's a great looking gun. My wallet is very glad I didn't see it when I was there. ;)

An HK .45 is on the short list, too...

Actually, Daniel knew I was looking and ordered it for me. It hadn't been in the shop for more than an hour or two before I stopped in to pick it up. I even had the honors of wiping off all of the HK packing grease. :D

I had this guy do all of the roughing-up for me...

Very nice! I really liked my P30 except for the DA/SA trigger. Cocked and locked, this gun should be a delight. Let us know how it shoots.

WTF!!!!!

And you said my gun was big....

But in all seriousness, welcome back to the family.

I don't think the HK45 is as large as the USP 45. I may be wrong, but it doesn't feel or look that way at all. It's only slightly larger than the M&P 9/40 full size in both length of slide and length of grip.

In fact, last night I learned by sheer luck that the HK45 fits into a DeSantis leather OWB holster that I bought to fit my M&P but ended up not caring for. So I technically have a holster that I could carry the HK45 in if I wanted to.
