Wakeup Call...

I've always been a single-action auto man, and truly happy with my street-custom Commander and a nice 4-pound trigger.;)

Enter my temptation to add a slightly smaller and more easily carried 9mm compact in the form of a Taurus PT-111 Pro. Great reviews and extremely reasonable price. Touted for it's smooth 6-pound SA/DA trigger. I gave in and bought one.

Out to the range (and let me say that the gun feels and carries good), and I fired 200 rounds without a single malfunction, but that trigger is a bear to get accustomed to. At 5 yards I was putting everything 3" from the X at the 7 o'clock position....and I thought it must be the sight adjustment, because the grouping was pretty tight. At the suggestion of a range officer, I borrowed a pistol rest to remove some potential 'operator error' from the equation. Surprise. Every shot was in the X ring! :dropjaw:

After some modification of my usual palm and trigger grips, I got better, but this SA/DA trigger stuff is a whole different ballgame.

The bottomline though is pretty positive, because when I dropped the slow shooting target accuracy approach and just went IPSC on the target in rapid fire, all was good and groupings normally centered on the target.

What was that bit about old dogs and new tricks? :)

What range were you at that let you borrom a pistol rest? Just curious. Stones River?

Glad the PT is working out for you. If you've been used to SAO for while, specifically just a 4 lb trigger, than I can see where you had to get accustomed to the Taurus (though once in single action mode is shouldn't feel too different)

Glad he groupings were good.

they make 3" officers frame 1911s in 9mm now, just sayin.

rapid fire/quick target acquisition is what that gun is made for right? not a target shooter.

I almost got an EMP today....resisted though, it was tough
