Do you compete?

To all the shooters who don't compete, give it a try. It does not matter if it's skeet, trap, steel challenge, IPSC, IDPA whatever gun you like to shoot find a game it works for and go PLAY! You like the people on this forum, I do, you will get to meet people like these, who love to shoot. My game is IDPA, the shooting is fun and challenging, but the people I compete with are the best. Go find a game and play, you won't regret it. The more shooters active in the sports the better for the gun industry our public image etc. Did I mention it's FUN! One more thing, don't worry about being a beginner, we were all beginners at some point. So get off the couch, turn the TV off, go outside and PLAY.

I've shot a few USPSA events and loved it. I need to get back into it as I've grown lax and not kept track of what weekend was approaching and made preparations to attend. That's 100% my own fault.

It may not be "training" but it is great at reinforcing the basics of handgun control and gives you an excellent chance to learn to shoot (and think!!!) on the move.

Nice!

I'm gearing up to shoot skeet  other than that, I'm pretty much competing "in house" with some of the guys here...I'm not the best, not by far, but it IS fun!!!

Shootin' skeet? Do them things taste like chicken?

Ha, ha, Bring your shotgun with ya the next time you come down to Oak Ridge skeet-boy.:D

I agree, I shoot idpa at the Gallatin gun club on the 2nd Sat. of the month, and the they are a bunch of great guys.

For the Oct. 13 we are going to have a shotgun/pistol match, I look forward to seeing some TGO members out there. Here is the round count. http://www.gallatingun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133&sid=65b831af58a4be65d603ed10e4881094

I shot trap a couple times in high school. It was pretty fun I need to get a job so I can afford to shoot more often, talk about stress relief

A couple of years ago I somewhat sheepishly agreed, at the urging of some skeet shooters at Cherokee Rod and Gun Club, to try my hand at skeet. I had been shooting using a manual thrower. Best move I ever made. It made shotgunning a hobby that I have had a blast participating in.

Last year a friend I met through skeet encouraged me to try my hand at IDPA. Well I did, and I can honestly say its the most fun I've ever had with a gun. I divide my time according to my work schedule between Kettlefoot Rod and Gun in Bristol and TAC 2 in Greeneville.

I agree with "gunsablazin". You can't beat shooting sports for the competitive urge in us all, and from my experience, you can't beat the people you develop friendships with.

oh, count on it!!!

I have a feeling you'll drool over it too..

It has become my favorite firearm...a model 50 winchester automatic 12 gauge shotgun in almost perfect condition.

I think i'm about 10,000 rounds of practice away before I even think about competing.

Ah, another true classic. Though I have at least a year or two on it, that Model 50 and I are about the same age you know. :D I'm pretty sure that they only made 'em from '54 to '60 or '61. I guess that you are shooting with the 28" barrel? You are right. I can't wait to see it. :D

BTW your Browning pistol is gonna be awfully upset that the model 50 is your favorite firearm.:)

Howabout a postal-match? That would be a neat monthly thing to do...

The folks at the IDPA forum did an international postal match this year, had at least three countries involved, 942 shooters total. It consisted of 4 IDPA stages, it was fun to set up and shoot. If this forum does a postal match for pistol or rifle i'll get my club in Cleveland to play! Now to pat myself on the back I finished 37 overall out of 942, not bad for an old guy with bad knees!
