I part-time bartended at a DAV bar one time and frequented a few VFW's, if you have ever been in one when "words" were thrown around about what happened to who and when, and what service is better than, and what service is does more, and....

Might be a goood idea to keep firearms out of the mix when some of the "ol timers" start goin at it. :)

Us old farts can be mean s***s when we get a few drinks in us. I am a long time retired MGySgt USMC and have been a school teacher for over 20 years but I still turn PFC on Liberty and look for sailors to beat up after a couple of brews at the VFW!

All kidding aside, bars at VFWs and ALs tend more toward the "bar" side than the restaurant side. Probably not a bad idea!

I've been in a couple of VFWs when I did Color Guard functions in the 29 Palms area, and those old boys aren't bashful about slamming a few down and stating their opinions. It probably is a good thing considering the inter-service rivalries.

I did thirty years active service in the USMC and a good part of that service was "In harm's way." Civilians do not realize how deep the love of service goes and that you are dealing with guys who, at one time in their lives, were expected to be violent. To many of them that service time was the most precious time of their lives and they will not cotton to any snide remarks about it. I think that , with the addition of alcohol, it not an arena that you would want weapons thrown into the ring. The Vet's clubs are more like an NCO or Officer mess than a civilian bar. They don't allow weapons in the NCO Club or O'club.

While, at least in theory, anyone carrying wouldn't be drinking, I have never served in the military or been to a VFW, so I will bow to the judgement of those who have.

I always assumed the big branch vs branch bar room brawls were just exaggerated Hollywood stuff.

Common occurance in some clubs. A Marine liberty call wasn't complete unless you rode back in a SP/MP truck!

In Sault Ste. Marie we had a hole cut in the base fence so we could take a short cut to the VFW. Loved to go there for lunch. I wasn't old enough to drink but the "members" would by us pitchers. Fun times.

You don't have to be in different services to fight. Hell we used to fight other ships and each other. Instant a$$h$#e just add alcohol.
