Remington 710

Question on the quality of this firearm, I was just in Walmart and they have 2 of them on clearance for $250.00 (plus there is a $30 mail in rebate). It has a scope (didn't look at the name brand). Both of them are in 7mm, I don't own a 7mm.

first question, is this a quality firearm?

Second question is 7mm a good hunting round?

I really need another rifle to pry into my safe but if it's a good deal then twist my arm:D.

I know some of WM firearms have "substandard" parts, I started to buy one, don't remember the brand and was told (by my local gun dealer (might have been trying to get me to buy it from him)) that the stocks were hollow and kicked like a mule because of no weight.

The scope on the 710's from the factory is a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40. Remington replaced the M710 with the M770 this year. It's supposed to be based on the M700 action and what not, and from what I've seen and heard, a pretty good economy priced rifle. I've shot a .270 M710 before. It's not a bad rifle. Especially for the price. That particular one shot a 2.5" group at 150 yards. Which is good enough for deer hunting. The main difference between the 770 and 710 that I can see is the extra 1-1.5lbs of weight on the 770.

For $250, I'd buy it and put up with Wal-Mart's crazy firearms purchasing procedures. Consider your arm twisted.

I would say thats a good buy! I used a Winchester 300 WSM last year for deer huntng, and the kick wasn't that bad! And the 7mm I have shot, wasn't that bad as well.
