308 lower receiver questions

I am kinda embarassed I don't know this, but I am by no means an AR expert.

My father-in-law got a DPMS .308 and we were wondering what other caliber uppers would work on it. I think I have heard you can only get full size rifle round uppers that fit.

Can anyone educate me on this?

Are the upper and lower assemblies of the LR-308 line of rifles interchangeable with other manufacturers rifles? (For example: Can I put a DPMS LR-308 upper assembly on an Armalite® AR-10™ lower assembly?)

No. The assemblies for the DPMS LR-308 line of rifles are proprietary and will not interchange with other .308 caliber rifles except the Remington R-25.

No Interchange.. Just remember that Remington and Bushmaster have merged. If I were to get an .308 based AR platform, I would go with the DPMS Lower.. then decide which rounds you want to shoot after talking to some of the top AR smiths, like John Hollinger or Frank White or Mike Bykowski to name the top ones. Some of the rounds that can be shot are, 358 winchester, .308, .243, .260, 6.5 Creedmoor, .240 NMC, 6XC, 6mm Super Match, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6mm-6.5x47L. I would also recconmend a stainless steel adjustable gas block, that is further down the barrel. Also, just as in the M1 Garand and M14 based rifles, one must watch what kind of ammo one uses and powder burn rates, if the powder is too slow burning, you can distroy your rifle.

Also, another note.. not just in AR10 type rifles, but also in the AR15 based rifles.. if your brass is landing out at 15 - 25 degrees forward of the ejection port of the rifle.. your bolt carrier is cycling to fast.

Also, tread lightly on trying to reduce the weight of the trigger in an AR10 based rifle, or hence take the risk of going auto.
