Yup. What one learns in the service, kinda sticks with 'em. I've carried a side arm since I was 18, and I still have all of my fingers/toes/appendages, etc. Just me, this ain't the wild West, and I ain't Wyatt Earp. Think, is the .5 second advantage worth a chance of an accident, especially with a Glock? It's a fine weapon, but even with a "safety" it's just not worth it. Again, my $0.02.

I didn't get this old by not calculating risks. BTW, none of my kids carry with one in the chamber. My Brothers (all three) do not carry one in the chamber off duty either.

Go ahead, call me a wimp. But at least I still have all of my parts.

So... lets say a crackhead attacks me for some money to get a high. He has a knife, he lunges, I manage to escape it partly but the knife goes right through my hand. How do I rack the slide? Or he tackles me to the ground and is trying to stab me in the eye with his knife? Or how about the millions of other possibilities where one of your hands is incapacitated? I bet there are millions upon millions of people who carry with a round in the chamber, and I bet 99.9999% of them have all their parts too, is that a fluke or what?

Wow, I completely disagree as well. I'm not active military, not LEO, but have a little training here and there, whether it was former military stuff (which wasn't much due to me being in armor), or private training, along with research, reading, etc, and have never been advised not to carry one in the chamber. I would be willing to bet, that it would be very difficult to find a self defense instructor that would advocate that. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am.

You are a fool if you rely upon a "safety' to make a firearm safe. NEVER have one in the pipe, unless you are on duty, or in a potential combat situation. My :ugh:.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I see it is if one is alive he or she are in a possible combat situation.

That's my two pennies!

Or the guy 10' away pulls a knife on you. By the time you've racked the slide, that knife is inside you.

Like I say, I'm not quick draw McGraw, and this ain't Dodge City on a Saturday night. Once the fecal matter hits the fan, I can get a shot off, probably just as precise and nearly as fast as y'all. Not sayin' I'm better, just more thoughtful. I once got into a fight and had my 1911 taken away from me some years ago, and I had the time to draw down on this person with my back-up K-frame while he tried to figgure out why he couldn't shoot me. Was in civilian clothes, but on duty. Al I'm sayin' is it's the way I do it.

Now I'm an old guy, and can't fight very good now. Or maybe I fought too much when I was younger and I'm just am not able. I guess I should re-evaluate my position.

Oh, and My J and K-Frames have and empty cylinder, too.

I do respect y'all, but that's the I was raised up.
