Truck toolbox storage

If I was to keep an ammo can (mil surp) with ammo stored inside my truck bed toolbox (metal diamond plate) .....would this be a bad idea?

Is heat a factor?

Is condensation a problem?

I have never noticed condensation in my tool box. I would think it would be fine for ammo in a can.

The myth busters say ammo has to get up to 400+ before it ignites.

I would think there would be no problem with condensation, as long as everything is the same temp.

You wouldn't want to bring ammo out of a house that is 68 to 70 & put it in a can in your truck that is already 100+.

I just would like to keep some in there. Not really "store" more like keep some on hand. I am one of those guys that keeps a "get home bag" in my truck and I would like to keep some ammo with me and keeping in my tool box will make sure it stays out of the way.

I ran a couple rds through the washer and dryer. Still went bang. Don't suggest the wet part. But I think a dryer gets up to what 150 degrees or so

I wouldn't worry about the heat. However I have a couple of large ammo cans mounted in the bed of my truck for storage and I do have a problem with condensation.

If you do this I would check it once in a while to make sure you don't end up with a can full of rusty ammo.

I would protect it with some sort of foam wrapping to prevent damage to rounds from constant vibration. Temp and moisture should not be a problem.

What jaysouth said. I've left ammo in the cans in my truck box for a couple of months at a time, padded top and bottom inside of the cans, no harm, no foul.

Being as you are from Memphis, will the ammo can fit in there with the Barrett?
