I want to throw in my two cents in about Mt. Juliet

I stumbled across this…

Another popular Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving program (COPPS) is the Citizens Handgun Safety Course. This course was designed by professional weapons experts to provide instruction on the safe and correct handling of handguns. Students are issued certificates after successfully completing the course, which fulfills one of the requirements for receiving a handgun permit in the State of Tennessee.

Participants must be 21 years of age or older, and the class fee is $25 for residents within the Mt. Juliet city limits, $50 for Wilson County residents, and $75 for residents of other Tennessee counties. The fee is payable in the form of a cashier's check or money order to "City of Mt. Juliet".

Class size is limited to 15 students. Each session begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Mt. Juliet Police Department's firing range on York Road and ends at approximately 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. The session includes classroom instruction and uniform, on-command firing at silhouette targets provided by the police department. Participants must bring their own handguns, holsters, ammunition and eye and ear protection to class.

**Note: Information and application packets for the Citizens Police Academy and the Citizens Handgun Safety Course may be obtained at Police Dispatch at City Hall. Applications may be mailed back to: Mt. Juliet Police Department, P.O. Box 322, Mt. Juliet, TN 37121 or dropped off at Police Dispatch. Call Corporal Jason Brockman at 754-2550, ext. 260 for more information about any of the COPPS programs.

Someone in Mt. Juliet City government or on the PD has some real vision when it comes to carry permits.

25 bucks…. Plus you get to hear the laws from (I assume) a qualified Police Officer; can’t beat that. :P

They only bad thing I can see is …. That’s a pretty chitty way to treat your neighbors just because our city government isn’t this forward thinking. :P

Way to go Mt. Juliet. patriot.gifpatriot.gif

I am teaching this as well starting at the end of October in Humphreys Co. I work for the Sheriff here and we are doing the class for $45 for anyone in Tennessee. I like the idea of us doing it. I know Dickson Co teach the HCP class but I do not know what they charge.

I am looking forward to it.

It's taught at a nice little range. I've shot at it with the police chief (Mustang friends) and the mayor, back when I first started shooting handguns a few years ago.

It's a great deal. My brother went through the MJPD course and felt it was thorough.

I will probably go through the course in the future because I told my fiance and mom if they wanted to go through, I would go with them so I can guide them with the shooting part and answer any questions they are unclear about.
