What's up everybody. My name is William DeBerry - hence, WTDeBerry - but I go by Wills. I am new to the forums and have only been lurking for a day or two. I am 22 years old and as the title says, from Cookeville, TN. I have not yet gotten my carry permit, nor have I obtained my first handgun. The only thing I have really shot on a semi-regular basis is a Glock 37 and a Yugoslavian SKS. I am very interested in purchasing my first handgun and I have been eyeballing a few, namely, a Glock 22/23/27, or a Smith & Wesson M&P 40/40c. I have held all and I like the feel of the M&P40c the best. I just wanted to get a few opinions on what other people think. I will say right now tho, as I just mentioned, the M&P40c is probably what I will end up going with and I do intend to carry as soon as I get my firearm and permit. In the end it is my decision, but opinions from others don't hurt and do help. So thanks all, in advance for any tips/opinions/reccomendations, as well as the pros and cons of each. I hope that I can learn as much as I can and one day participate and bring some knowledge to the table. I will post this in the handgun section as well, but I figured this was as good a place as any to start.

Thanks Again,

WTDeBerry

Welcome to the forum. Why wait untill you get a permit to buy the gun? If you had it now you could be getting in lots of practice. I'm not too far from Cookeville, which gun stores have you been looking in?

Welcome to TGO. I am also from Cookietown.

My Opinion- XDm larger carry, or XDsc easy conceal-super reliable. XDsc in .40 is my daily carry. My M&P .357 SIG is a super good feeling weapon, but just IS NOT my XD. A Glock is extra reliable, just love my XD additional backstrap safety.

BFWIW

This is Glock vs SA XD is A Whole Other thread (discussed and debated here time and time again) Both Great Weapons....

JUST MY:2cents::rolleyes:

Again Welcome to Cookeville from..........

Well I plan on purchasing the gun when I get my next paycheck. I have been looking mainly at Top Guns on S. Willow Ave. And also, Outdoor Junction over there on Hwy. 70 towards Monterey, right by I-40. They have a nice selection. Anywhere else you would reccomend?

I have looked at the SA XDm. I LOVE it - I just want something a little more compact. I may take a look at the XDsc as well. Thanks for the reply. While we are on the subject of Cookeville tho, what store would you recommend? And where do you shoot?

I shop at both. Also, don't overlook the 3 pawn shops that have guns. Dave's on Willow, and 2 in the old downtown section (N. of rt. 70) don't recall the names. There's a good store in Algood, too, right on the main hwy. through town. The GI Depot on 7th St. off Willow has a good selection of accessories.

I'll try to get the names & addresses of the other places next time I get to town.

Yeah I know S&R. It's about a mile down the road from me - live on 10th - I have been to Dave's, and the other two I know of - Kwik Kash across from the Ralph's Donuts and I don't recall the name of the other. Kwik Kash has a nice selection and they told me they would beat any price I found, maybe/maybe not. We have alot of good gun stores here in Cookietown now that I am thinking about it. Good lil town we live in.;)
