If you haven't shot one yet I have a 442 you can shoot. I like the gun for carrying in my pocket, Its easy to conceal. But it has a pretty good thump of a recoil but I didnt buy it shoot alot I bought it to carry. I dont know the prices for them though.

My Airweight is very easy to conceal, but difficult to shoot.

Wrap your off hand thumb around the back of your main hand when gripping it and hold tightly. The .38 doesn't kick as bad as my .357, but its still pretty stiff. Wrapping the thumb makes a world of difference.

You'll also want to practice dealing with the long trigger pull. I pull mine half way, aim, and then finish the pull.

As for price, they're not cheap. In the $600 range is a reasonable price for a very clean, used one.

Found this one with a simple google search, $419 + $20 shipping, New in Box.

I am sure you could ask one of the local dealers if they can match that price, or one of the authorized retailers that list guns here.

good Luck

Budsgunshop.com has them for $432.00 delivered. I have the 442 and it is a fine little weapon to slip in your pocket.

I have the 637 and it's a great little carry weapon or BUG. You just have to practice putting your thumb over the hammer if you draw from a pocket holster. Nothing too difficult. I got mine on a great sale for $402 OTD. I haven't had a problem with the internal lock, so I feel no need to mess with it. Good luck on your decision.

You can't go wrong with a Smith J Frame. I have a model 38 Bodyguard and a 342ti. You can't beat them in the CC catagory

Anything under 400.00 is a deal, under 300.00 is a gift

Yeah but you will pay $30-50.00 on top of that for the FFL transfer

Nope. Mine only charges for the TIC which is $10. I do advocate buying from your local dealer as long as they are competitive.

I have a model 637 and my only complaint is the clear coat finish started to wear off after about a year of every day carry. I think it is fairly common for the 642/637 series of smiths. That being said, I took the opportunity to bead blast the frame and bob the hammer a bit. It sees more carry duty than any other pistol I own.

Well in the Knoxville area your looking at a minimum $30.00

MCR is right, unless you know somebody thats gonna give you the buddy discount, 30.00 is about as good as it gets around Knoxville

If you are close enough; check out Silvers Firearms in Old Fort, TN

S&W 442 is $439 here

I'm sure he would give a similar deal if you really wanted the 637

go to buds gunshop and u can pick one up in there used gun area if one pops up.

I had a 638 with the recessed hammer (sa/da yet no typical hammer spur to snag). It was a great pocket gun, and I'd highly recommend it. I'm also familiar with the 637 and 442, and both are fine weapons. All the snubbies like that in .38 aren't really range guns, they hurt after a while and aren't much good beyond 25 yards for accuracy. their great for carry though - quick and easy pocket guns, and if it doesn't go boom the first trigger pull, just keep sqeezing, unlike having to tell a BG to hang onwhile you clear a jam lol.

I have the model you are thinking about and just love it, it conceals easy, is light weight, and not all that expensive. I really like it well, I use a pocket holster and take it everywhere. Highly recommend it for sure. I just don't shoot it as much as my other guns, strickly self defense. Bud's has usually the best price, they pay for shipping and you must pay for the transfer, even then, they are hard to beat!!:)

I have a 642. It is the hammerless version of the one you are trying to get. I paid about 400 bucks new before taxes two years ago before gun prices went up. You will really like it. Get you a good pocket holster and you can carry that thing everywhere. I carry mine everywhere it is legal and no one knows. It is the perfect balance of enough gun and something you can carry comfortably and concealability. it won't drag your pants pocket down like an all steel snub. It will hurt your hand more than an all steel gun...but it isn't bad. I changed out the grips to Hogue bantam grips and that helps with the recoil more for me than the ones that came from factory.

I don’t care for alloy frame guns (unless that alloy is stainless steel), but Academy Sports has them in this weekend’s flier. It says “$479.99 Everydayâ€
