BTW, I have one of those Mossberg .22's with the hinged fore-end. Sweet little gun even if it's only $26.95 :hat:

So, why is it hinged? What purpose does that serve?

It can be used as a traditional rifle fore-end, or it can be folded down to be used as a vertical grip. It does not lock into place when used as a vertical grip, but with a .22 recoil it doesn't really matter. It's a fun shooter. It was given to my grandfather > dad > me...

Look at the picture closely. It is a forward grip for your left hand. (If you are a righty) Probably highly illegal NOW. (Oops, someone elses answer snuck in there just as I was posting this!)
