New pics, new parts... Ratty-ass Kimber Warrior 1911. BIG pics.

I feel almost naughty confessing that I like to treat this gun like a cheap date... but I do and the "character marks" on the slide prove it. :usa:

Added since the last time pics were taken:

  • MARS Armament magwell with lanyard loop, 20lpi checkering and Cerakote finish

  • 10-8 Performance tritium sight set

  • Abuse and about 1,000 rounds of nasty reloads including one accidental .40SW round that somehow got thrown into the heap :screwy:

The Jeff Meister down at Hero Gear fitted the sights for me and also reamed out the chamber and polished the feed ramp to improve reliability. Again, big thanks to him for treating my 'ho to some TLC.

I should note that I am absolutely loving this gun. I didn't want another safe queen 1911 that never got taken out and shot, so I set forth with the goal in mind to just shoot the paint off of it and treat it like a fighting implement. So far, so good. She seems to like being treated like a dirty two-bit skank. :usa:

You are using her as she was meant to be used!

look'n good..

How did the .40 round work out LOL

It went off and drilled a hole in the target, but didn't cycle the slide. :usa:

Yeah, that 40 cal just didn't "rack her slide". :usa: She likes 'em thicker so the whole chamber is full.

.40SW was like a hotdog thrown down a hallway. :screwy:

When are you going to get bored enough to subject it to a duracoat

I won't use Duracoat on it but may Moly it or Cerakote. Depends on how fast the current finish wears off and looks like complete butt. So far it's moving along pretty fast though. Kimber's finish is maybe a half-step above Krylon. :hyper:

Shes a beauty Dave. Enjoy treating her like a dirty biatch.

Kimber's coating is great for safes lol. Not so much when you do a transition that involves dropping your weapon.

But it lasts longer than Taurus's finish, I've about worn it off in 500 rounds.

You should treat your Wilson Professional that way, they are not made to stay in a safe they get Claustrophobia and feel neglected :)

I take it you shot the .40 on purpose? Kinda hard not to tell the difference for someone with experience in both calibers ;-D Good looking gun...my Dan Wesson suffers similar abuse...just not on purpose.

No. Someone else loaded the mag and handed it to me. The .40SW was down inside the mag somewhere. It's easier to screw up than you think, especially when people are standing around talking, shooting and loading and not paying 100% attention to the ammo they are dipping into.

Easy mistake.

No you have reawoken my 1911 itch. Had a Springfield Mil-Spec Stainless, but seeing that Nubian colored princess of yours makes me want a good quality one. Anyone interested in trading a Springfield XD 9 for one?

I've been wanting a Warrior for a while. My fear has been that it would end up becoming a safe queen. Now that Jeff is building one of the HG CBOBs, your thread makes me want to put on into service.

Here's the deal, Skippy. I don't mind answering legitimate questions and enjoy sharing the things that I've learned along the way. You've asked for some clarification in that reply and I'm happy to provide it.

The problem is you've kind of made yourself a Sh-t Magnet with some of the things you've said in a few other threads. I chalk it up to you being young and thinking you know a lot more about life than you really do. I was there once and probably annoyed some folks too. If you want to be accepted here, I'd suggest a lower-profile for a while until you figure out what the status quo is around here.

20lpi refers to the 20 lines per inch checkering on the backstrap of the main spring housing. On my Kimber, the main spring housing (MSH) is an aftermarket piece made by MARS Armament that also incorporates an enlarged magazine well that helps funnel the mag into the frame a little quicker under stress.

The lanyard loop is built into the MSH and is not visible in any of the pictures that I posted. Since you pointed that out, I realized that I should have taken a picture of that as it's actually kind of a cool piece. I'll try to do that later today and add a picture.

And finally, the sights are a custom piece made by Hilton Yam over at 10-8 Performance. He is a professional SWAT dude down in Florida and a very well respected authority on building utilitarian "fighting" 1911s. The sights sit higher to clear a suppressor if you wanted to add one, and the rear sight is notched heavily to provide a solid hook for racking the slide one-handed using a table, your belt, holster, rock, something.
