So a great hunter and author once said that the North American hunter needs three rifles to hunt on this continent. He said you need a 30-06, a 12 guage shot gun and a .22 caliber rifle. I am thinking of finishing out my collection and would like a little advice on a .22 caliber rifle. I was thinking about getting a lever action because I like the look and style of them but I could be swayed to a semi automatic. Can anybody give me some brands to check out?

the lever action .22 to get is the marlin 39a.

semi auto in .22 is usually the ruger 10-22 as it is able to add lots of accessories. but the marlin model 60 is great as well

The Marlin is the gun to get. If price is an issue, take a look at the levers made by Henry, not bad for the price.

If you really want to get nostolgic, check out a Ithaca Model 49, It's a singleshot lever action but it was my first gun and I can't express how much I enjoyed it as a young man. If the old school thing is not for you, then Henry is a great choice in rimfire lever actions

As far as levers go, +1 on the Marlin 39A. I have had just about everything in a 22 lever and it is tops. The Browning BL22 was a lot smaller and lighter but it would be my second choice. Didn't care for the lever.

As to other 22's, forget autos, get a CZ452, they will shoot the lights out.

I bought a Henry H001T and couldn't be happier. The action is very slick and accuarcy is above par. The Henry is about half the cost of the Marlin. That said I would still like to have a Marlin. You can't have too many lever guns.

I really don't think there is a bad lever .22, none that I shot I didn't care for. Are there lever .22's that are better? Maybe.....but none are bad. At least in my experience, though I'm no expert. I've been jonesin' for a CZ452. A pump gallery gun would be nice too. I have an old marlin bolt 25n(if i remember right) that I've had no complaints with.....nothin fancy, but shoots dead on and gets it done. 10/22's are great if you think you might want to tinker with it and deck it out.

I love my 40+ year-old Marlin 39A. v I suggest getting a 39A.
