Thank God! (yeah...God). If we had lived under socialism, we'd either be trying to escape to the United States of America or we'd still be stuck in it. Many have died trying to escape socialism. It's very hard to get out of socialism once in it. You have to wait a very long time until it simply fails or the balance of power finally tips from the socialist leaders to the people. As Margaret Thatcher said, "the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

If the United States ever goes socialist...what other country will there be to rescue us??? Game over.

I could be wrong, but I believe 44M did live under socialism when he was younger. I believe that was the reference...

and...it sounds like he's implying...that if we tried it we'd maybe like it?

Not sure what his point was then. Sounded to me as if he were saying that unless we had lived under socialism ourselves then we were unqualified to recognize it. You don't have to see a skunk to recognize one is nearby.

From Merriam-Webster:

Socialism: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.

Marxism: the political, economic, and social principles and policies advocated by Marx; especially : a theory and practice of socialism including the labor theory of value, dialectical materialism, the class struggle, and dictatorship of the proletariat until the establishment of a classless society

Fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

Communism: a theory advocating elimination of private property b : a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed

2 capitalized a : a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics b : a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production c : a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably d : communist systems collectively

Totalitarian: 1. of or pertaining to a centralized government that does not tolerate parties of differing opinion and that exercises dictatorial control over many aspects of life.

2. exercising control over the freedom, will, or thought of others; authoritarian; autocratic.

Police State: a political unit characterized by repressive governmental control of political, economic, and social life usually by an arbitrary exercise of power by police and especially secret police in place of regular operation of administrative and judicial organs of the government according to publicly known legal procedures.

So feel free to chime in but here's my 1st attempt to label it Sociamarxifascicommutarian-PS or maybe something similar to NSDAP like this SMFCTPS (maybe a different order of letters would sound better?).

Also, lets add this (your quote from another thread) here to show your thinking:

when I was 8 year old we had socialized health care and I didn`t have anything to worry about. When I was sick I would go to the doctor got checked, got my prescription, went to the pharmacy and then home. Didn`t cost me a one penny. Everybody had then (and most European countries do have it today) guaranteed health care. My mother just got diagnosed with brest cancer few weeks ago, after mamogram she was in the operating room in 2-3 days and was home in another 3-4 days. No insurance problems, no waiting, no circus with deductibles or secondary insurances or whos going to pay for what or I don`t know what. That is socialized healh care, when you`re sick you go to the doctor and you get treated. The problem here in US are gazilliondollars worth health insurance companies who would be out of business overnite if that happeneds and everything you watch on TV and all the propaganda how socialized health care is a some terrible thing is nothing but a bunch a bologna. I love that TV comercial with that woman from Canada who wasn`t happy with her health care in Canada so she came here...? but nobody told us how much she had to pay for it because I know, she didn`t have health insurance here being from Canada. Paying $800 for ambulance or $2000 for 4 hour wait and few shots of baby motrin and tylenol at the emergency room for your baby is another example of how working man gets riped off. US Goverment runs the whole country and I don`t see the reason why they couldn`t run successful health care.Don`t believe everythign you see and don`t judge something you don`t know anything about. And unles you lived in the socialist country you don`t know what socialized health care is all about. Germany is socialized country, and you`d like to have one of those new S Class Daimlers now, wouldn`t you?

Db

You fail to mention it has to be paid for and there are limits to what can be afforded. Your point about Canadians is a valuable one - to get what she wanted she HAD TO come to the USA to get it, granted she did have to pay for it. Well actually we don't know that do we? Maybe she just got the service then skipped out back to CA and never paid the bill. We don't know do we? and our system allows it. Also, it's important to note that since 1998 wait times have been statistacally tracked showing that in all but Urgent Cardiovascular the wait times have increased; in some cases drastically. CA argues against a parallel private system but Canadians are forced to come here for healthcare :usa:

So wherever you were from I'd venture to say that it is different now than they were when you left to come enjoy our freedom.

I'd like you to consider this - if you are going to advocate what you had and would prefer it I invite you to go back to where you are from.

Also, Germany! The only thing I want from them is a strategic location for a base and a historical example of what happened there and why. I don't even like bratwurst much and prefer the beer from Holland

I think Germany is a great country, I have roots there, and it has a lot of great history that should overshadow some of the darker times there. But I also know my family left to find a new opportunity and they didn't go back. Anyone that wants to live in a socialistic country is free to voice that opinion and try to get "change", but don't be upset when I want to protect my country, keep my freedoms, and reject the "change", and ask you kindly to find another socialistic country to live in if that is your desire.

The comment directed to Germany is tongue-in-cheek but, it is only insult to have any inclination or yearning for what Americans have died to protect against. Even worse to promote it!
