I was given a Hawken Rifle Kit and I want to turn it into a wall hanger.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to artificially age the rifle?

I was wanting to put on some brass tacks to make it look like an old Indian rifle and a guy mentioned BRASS BLACK but what about the rest of the rifle?

Thanks

I knew a gentleman in Longview Texas that artificially aged modern Italian replicas of handguns and rifles. He used a spray bottle set to mist with 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and 0000 steel wool frequently wiping with pure water to neutralize the vinegar. Depending on the degree of distress he wanted, he also used ball peen hammers and steel chain links of different sizes (one trick he had was to make his dents prior to starting on aging the finish, then filling those dents with paraffin to keep the blue from coming into contact with the vinegar).

He knew old guns wear unevenly, so he worked on some areas of the guns more or less depending on what he had observed on real examples.

Birchwood Casey makes a metal finish called Plum Brown. I used it on a pepperbox replica, and was quite pleased with the antiue look of it.

This is gross but scam artists soak reproductions in urine and sell them as war relics

Another option is to offer it as the first place prize for a NASCAR race, and then hope Kyle Busch wins. :D
