Bat removal

Has anyone had any experience with bat removal? My parents' house is being occupied by at least 75+ bats. We counted 75 flying out of the eves of the house tonight. They aren't in the attic, which is a good thing. They have an exterminator coming tomorrow. I'm sure his quote will be in the thousands. He was talking about a catch and release program.

Put up bat houses around the property. Bats are a good thing, just not in your house. I don't think you can exterminate them due to the new disease they are fighting off. Not sure about that though. Wait til night and they are out and about, scare the rest out, put up chicken wire in a rapid manner. Don't breathe the guano dust. That's all I got.

No, you are right. There is no extermination. It is a company that relocates the bats; I don't know their name.

They would have to put up bat condos for that many.

Got bats? Keep 'em.

Not only do they provide excellent mosquito control, but their guano is a source for saltpeter. Add charcoal and sulfur, and you can make your own black powder.

Great mamaw said bat guano = lead in the pencil

moth balls work to repel a whole slew of critters. Might work on bats.

Only problem I have is once you catch the moth you have to hold their legs apart while you cut their balls off.

Shucks, I just built and put up a bathouse that is supposed to provide a home for several hundred of the little mosquito eaters. I have a few around the place and would like to have lots more. I really enjoy being outside in the evening and watch them.

I'd love to see some pictures of that, oldogy. I'm looking into putting several around my house. I've heard it takes years sometimes before they occupy the house, though. I don't know if that is true or not...

Search google for bat house plans and you will find a plethora of information. I would try to keep them on the property if possible. They are beneficial and many would love to have them.

If it were me though, I'd keep the bats.

'Case that way, when people say "You've got bats in your belfry", I could say "No I don't, they're under the eaves of the house". :D:P
