anyone have recommendations on any kind of batteryless flashlights, I knwo there is the shakable one which is OK i guess in some respects, I have seen one that uses a crank, but not sure how good of quality or how long it would really last before breaking.

recommendations or thoughts

I have a windup made by Safety Cross that has the cell phone charger, radio, and a loud siren built into it. The light is one of the brighter ones I have seen on a windup, but it is good for little more than around the house use. I have one I keep in the vehicle for car camping.

For something inexpensive and brighter, get a 2AA LED minimag. These tend to last a long time with a single set of batteries.

I have used one several years ago, it was a crank up unit not very bright, since then I have started a collection of surefire LED lights, the Surefire batteries have a 10 year shelf life and I replenish the stock on them every couple of years, sorry I didn't answer your question but the model I used did not impress me enough to remember its name ;)

I think the crank flashlight is a great idea, but my concern is that is is likely a cheaply made chinease product that when used after a while will fail, likely the plastic gears is my prediction

I've messed w/ one of those shake flashlights before, they're pretty worthless. I'd compare it to using a cell phone screen as a flashlight.

Personally, I'd do what SUNTZU suggested and buy yourself a decent LED flashlight. I've got a knock off minimag that's been running off the same 4 AAA's for over 3 years.

Then again, I've got s solar powered flashlight I'll sell you ;)
