Is Federal Ammo the same as Blazer Brass?

I went by Walker Springs Walmart this morning and found another box of .40 S&W Federal Champion 180 grain, FMJ, 50 rounds for $12+/-. I thought this was a great price, and I've been getting it every time I see it...I've got several boxes now. Well, this morning the cashier in sporting goods said that they are speculating that this Federal stuff is really Blazer Brass. I disagreed with him, but his reasoning was that they weren't getting any Blazer Brass anymore, and that both the 9mm and .40 were the exact price (to the penny) as the Blazer Brass. I wouldn't personally base any speculation on the price of a product...they are probably being competitive with each other. If Federal knew how much Walmart was selling the Blazer for, then they would want to compete with that, right? I have never thought very highly of Blazer Brass, and wouldn't knowingly purchase any, although I know some folks have had luck with it...my concern is that some people are thinking the Federal ammo is the same as Blazer. Didn't Blazer have silver aluminum casings (even though it was called "brass"? This Federal casings says "Federal". Do you think this guy was just wrong? Thanks, B

There have been several threads about this but here's my opinion:

Federal and CCI (Blazer) are both owned by the same company.

I cannot tell the diffence in performance of the two. Have not really heard of anyone that could.

Blazer Brass is indeed brass. You might be thinking of the non-reloadable aluminum cased Blazer.

For all intents and purposes it's the same stuff.

It seems like Federal and Blazer are owned by the same company along with CCI. I have better luck with the Blazer Brass 9mm in my pistols than alot of other brands. I have also tried the Federal 9mm from Walmart with good luck. The worst thing I have tried lately is the Winchester white box 100 count 9mm value pack. Out of 100 of the Winchesters I usually get 3 or 4 duds. My keltec PF 9 has problems with the Winchesters. It will go through a whole box of the Blazer or Federal with no problems.

Blazer ammo is pretty cheap, but I have never liked it personally! Their 45acp was crap, but i have a bulk pack of 22lr that I have yet to try out.
