Killings

On October 16, 1991, Hennard drove his 1987 Ford Ranger pickup truck through the front window of a Luby's Cafeteria at 1705 East Central Texas Expressway in Killeen, yelled "This is what Bell County has done to me!", then opened fire on the restaurant's patrons and staff with a Glock 17 pistol and later a Ruger P89. He stalked, shot, and killed 23 people and wounded another 20 before committing suicide. About 80 people were in the restaurant at the time. The first victim was Dr. Michael Griffith, a local veterinarian, who ran up to the driver's side of the pickup truck after it came through the window to offer assistance. During the shooting, Hennard approached Suzanna Gratia Hupp and her parents. Hupp had actually brought a handgun to the Luby's Cafeteria that day, but had left it in her vehicle due to the laws in force at the time, forbidding citizens from carrying firearms. According to her later testimony in favor of Missouri's HB-1720 bill[1] and in general [2][3], after she realized that her firearm was not in her purse, but "a hundred feet away in [her] car", her father charged at Hennard in an attempt to subdue him, only to be gunned down; a short time later, her mother was also shot and killed. (Hupp later expressed regret for abiding by the law in question by leaving her firearm in her car, rather than keeping it on her person[1].) One patron, Tommy Vaughn, threw himself through a plate-glass window to allow others to escape.[4] Hennard allowed a mother and her four-year-old child to leave. He reloaded several times and still had ammunition remaining when he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head after being cornered and wounded by police.[5][6][7]:P

Wasn't there a fairly significant shooting at a McDonalds in CA in the late 80s/early 90s?

There was a robbery at Pete and Sams here in Memphis in the 90s where a couple of staff were killed, one ended up with a colostomy bag and a friend of mine who worked there at the time it happened ended up with pretty bad PTSD.

Found it, San Ysidro -

1984 July 18th - USA, California, San Ysidro: James Huberty, born in 1942

in Ohio, walked into a McDonald's restaurant around 4pm. Armed with a

Browning P-35 Hi-Power 9mm pistol, a Winchester 1200 pump-action 12-gauge

shotgun, and an Israeli Military Industrial 9-mm Model A carbine (U2), he

ordered everybody on the ground. Then he started indiscriminately

shooting at children and adults. At 5:10pm, police officers were able to

shoot the assailant. 22 people (including the attacker) died and 19

others were injured.

1991 October 16th - USA, Texas, Killeen, Luby's Restaurant: George

Hennard drove his light Ford pickup truck through the front window of the

cafeteria, got out of the vehicle, and started shooting people execution

style. He was armed with two pistols, a Glock 17 semiautomatic and a

Ruger P89. After being shot and wounded by a police officer, the

assailant shot himself to death. 24 people (including the attacker) died and 20 others were injured.

1996 April 28th - Australia, Island of Tasmania, Port Arthur Historic

Site, Broad Arrow Café: Around 1:30, 28-year-old Martin Bryant started a

shooting spree. Using two military weapons, a self-loading AR-15 rifle

and a SKS assault rifle, he killed twenty people and injured 15 others

inside the café. Outside he continued the rampage including shooting at

little children at point-blank range. In the end, 35 people were dead

and 18 others were wounded.

2000 March 1st. - USA, Pennsylvania, Wilkinsburg: an attacker went on a racially motivated shooting rampage targeting at his apartment building and two nearby fast food restaurants; 3 people died and 2 others were injured. The attacker surrendered after a standoff at an office building. Police later found anti-white and anti-Jewish writings in his apartment. All the shooting victims were white. In April a judge ruled that the assailant was incompetent to stand trial and ordered him to be placed in a state hospital for treatment of paranoid schizophrenia. In August the attacker was found competent to stand trial as long as he keeps taking his medication.

Dec 27 2007 Knoxville tn Hooters

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- One man was killed and another injured early Saturday morning when a dispute over a bar tab at a West Knoxville restaurant turned to gunfire.

The shooting happened at Hooters on Kingston Pike just before 1 a.m.

Officers say witnesses told them a male customer started a dispute over his tab with a Hooters employee. A manager stepped in and asked him to leave the restaurant.

The man pulled out a gun as he left and fired several shots into the building.

Two men were struck by bullets. Stacey Sherman, 35, a customer from Applegate, Mich., was hit while leaving the restaurant. Kris Key, 25, an assistant manager at the restaurant, was also wounded.

The victims were quickly transported by ambulance to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where Sherman died. Key is listed in serious condition.

After the shooting, police say the suspect fled the scene on foot. He is described as a white male with dark complexion. He is between 5'10" and 6', and 150 to 160 pounds. He is believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s. His hair is in a short ponytail, and was unshaven and unkempt.

At the time of the shooting the suspect was wearing dark blue baggy jeans, black boots, and a black hoody with white stitching that was in diamond pattern.

Officers say the suspect is missing four front teeth and his earlobes are stretched with large dark jewelry. He wears rings on every finger and several necklaces. He was carrying a large black backpack.

Call the Knoxville Police Department if you have any information at (865) 215-7212.

Here's one a little more local.

"Convictions against a man who admitted murdering three Captain D's restaurant employees were upheld Wednesday by the state Court of Criminal Appeals.

Percy Lee Palmer, 26, of Murfreesboro pleaded guilty to first-degree murder of cashier Troy Snell, 18, of La Vergne, Bryan Speight, 29, of Nashville and Scott Myers, 42, of Memphis. He is serving a life sentence in the state penitentiary.

The employees were shot and killed July 12, 2000 at the Smyrna restaurant.

Co-defendant La Tonya Taylor, 30, of Nashville is serving a life sentence without parole after a Circuit Court jury convicted her Sept. 28, 2004.

Snell's body was found inside his car behind the restaurant while Speight and Myers' bodies were found inside the restaurant."

Here are two from West Palm Beach, Fl. recently. I appologise for the sloppy posting, but I havn't figured how to clean it up yet.

DELRAY BEACH - Three suspects in the Dunkin' Dounts shooting and robbery were held without bond on 26 charges including aggravated assault with firearm and attempted first-degree murder.

James Herard, 19, Calvin Weatherspoon, 20, both of Lauderhill, and Tharod Bell, 23, of Fort Lauderdale, were ordered held without bond in first appearance court west of West Palm Beach. They are being held in Broward County jail but were brought to Palm Beach County for their first appearance in court here.

The three men were surrounded by the tight security of more than 10 deputies in the courtroom as they faced the judge.

A fourth suspect, Charles Faustin, 18, also of Fort Lauderdale, remained in Broward County Jail and was not in court today.

The men were arrested in December for a string of doughnut store robberies in Palm Beach and Broward counties.

The first robbery happened Nov. 26 in the 4800 block of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Police say the four walked in, robbed the place and shot four people. A fifth person was shot outside the store as he sat in his car.

Bell and Herard face two counts of murder from the Thanksgiving Day robbery of a Tamarac Dunkin' Donuts and an unrelated Nov. 14 shooting in Lauderhill.

Faustin faces one murder charge in the Nov. 14 shooting death as well.

Lt. Rafael Vazquez was killed in shooting spree at a Wendy's restaurant in West Palm Beach, Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Paramedic Rafael Vazquez left a training course on how to help when several people are hurt at once, and went to lunch at a nearby Wendy's. He became exactly the kind of victim he was being trained to save.

As Vazquez stood at the counter waiting to exchange a promotional toy for his child, he was shot point blank in the back by a gunman wearing a jacket, tie and baseball cap. Four others, including a man from Killeen, Texas, were wounded by gunfire during the lunch hour rampage Monday, and the 60-year-old gunman — Alburn Edward Blake of West Palm Beach — committed suicide.

Investigators were still unsure why Blake, a handyman and maintenance worker, chose the crowded restaurant, and why he decided to kill in a seemingly random attack.

"This was not a robbery. He didn't demand anything," said Paul Miller, a Palm Beach County sheriff's spokesman. "Looks like this was just another random shooting like we've seen around the United States."

Miller said Blake had no relation to anyone at the restaurant and no suicide note was found. "We don't know why he picked this location to do this horrible deed," Miller said.

Vazquez, the slain off-duty firefighter, "probably didn't even see him," said Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Steve Delai. Vazquez's wife and child were outside in the parking lot when the shooting began.

Vazquez, 42, was on a lunch break Monday and had been attending a course called "Strategy and Tactics," after being promoted to lieutenant in January. Delai said the course teaches officers how to "manage large-scale incidents like we had today."

Witnesses said Blake entered the restaurant and went to a restroom. He appeared nervous when he emerged and killed Vazquez. He died at the scene without ever uttering a word.

The injured — Louis Rader, 65; his wife, Antonia, 62; Vanessa Soto, 16; and Carl Michalek, 43, of Killeen — were hospitalized in stable condition, officials said. Two others had minor injuries, including one person who was hurt while running away.

Bob Bertini, a Wendy's Inc. spokesman based in Dublin, Ohio, called the shooting "a senseless tragedy."

The mayhem unfolded on a major suburban road lined with strip malls, car dealerships and fast food restaurants, about five miles from downtown West Palm Beach.

Josh Maynard, 30, said he and his 20-year-old brother Jerry hit the floor when Blake opened fire. Jerry Maynard said the shooter held his gun sideways, repeatedly pulling the trigger, and said nothing.

He emptied at least one clip before shooting himself in the head.

"I just saw a lady with a little boy in her arms come running out screaming, 'Somebody's shooting!"' said Sandra Jackson, 43, of Palm Springs, who had been getting gas across the street.

One customer, who authorities called a hero, kicked the pistol away from the gunman after he'd shot himself, then started first aid on the wounded.

Neighbors described Blake as a quiet man who "kept to himself." Public records show that Blake owned a maintenance and handyman company until 2003. A 1996 story in The Palm Beach Post showed that he accidentally ran over an 18-month-old girl with his van, leaving her seriously injured. The story said he had a young daughter, who would now be a teenager.

Michele Grippe watched police search Blake's apartment after the shooting. "The only thing they took out of the house was a bag of pills," Grippe said. "Right now, I'm really, really shocked."

Vazquez's wife was a law enforcement officer, a corporal at the nearby Palm Springs Public Safety Department. The couple had one child together and four from previous relationships.

"It's just tragic," said Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue Captain Don Delucia

My own case....... The man that killed my husband goes to trial next year (so much for quick justice)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man was arrested after police said he shot and killed a mobile karaoke business owner Thursday night.

Metro Police said the shooter, Hank Wise, had apparently developed a fascination with Ben Goeser's wife after seeing her at other karaoke events over the past few months.

"We didn't think anything about it, you know? He just was weird. He was real quiet," said Nikki Goeser, murder victim's wife.

Nikki never knew Hank Wise was capable of killing, especially her husband of 15 months.

"He was following her to an extent, it could be considered every much a case of stalking," said Metro police officer Randy Alexander.

Investigators are trying to figure out what made Hank Wise lose control.

"He has no previous arrest history what so ever," said Alexander. "We still don't know the entire answer to it, it's still under investigation. We do know they were not strangers. They had met several months earlier."

Police said apparently, Wise started sending inappropriate e-mails to Nikki Goeser through My Space.

"I deleted him, and I blocked him from my MySpace page," said Goeser.

She told him to stop, and had not heard from more than a month ago until last night.

"My husband, Ben, was just standing at the Karaoke computer -- just minding his own business, just entering in songs," said Goeser. "There was a struggle, and the guys were trying to get him out, and he pulled a weapon and he shot like 4 or 5 rounds into Ben. He died instantly."

Wise left a message on his MySpace blog the day before the shooting that said "Forever unforgiven, I know who you are, run. You're going to see my bad side. It's going to be extremely painful. I'll be on the hunt, predator and prey. You're forever unforgiven."

Police guess the blog was connected to the shooting, but it was unclear who Wise was talking about in his message.

Goeser, co-owner of Cane Ridge Karaoke, was killed while at work last night at Johnny's Sports Bar, at 5805 Nolensville Pike, in South Nashville just after 10:30 p.m.

"Very fortunate that no one else was hurt. There were multiple rounds fired inside," said Alexander.

Management at Jonny's asked Wise to leave. Police said that was when Wise approached Goeser and shot him several times.

Bar patrons tackled the gunman and held him until police arrived.

The suspect is being held in lieu of $1 million bond at the Davidson County Jail on murder charges.
