Don't Turn the Remaining Eye Toward the Laser!

A machinist friend of mine used to have that in his signature line, and it always cracked me up.

So here I am, doing all sorts of stupid and dangerous things in my life (teaching racing, flying helicopters, stepping into civil wars, etc.), and never really hurt to speak of. Including never a shooting accident.

Then yesterday I'm changing out the base plate on a magazine and my finger slipped and the spring flew up and hit me in the eye.

Mistakes:

1) Not wearing glasses while I did it.

2) Grabbing the fully loaded magazine instead of the empty one, which means the spring was as tight as a violin string. Egads. What a flippin' idiot.

3) Telling you about it. :death:

I am amazed I made it past a certain point in my life without safety glasses. It seems like I put them on religiously now if I am out in the shop or in the garage. Maybe I growing more cautious with age, but I've been struck recently at how many things have flown up and hit my glasses.

That said, I'm not sure I would have been wearing them either when changing a baseplate.

I've been wondering when you were going to redact that list. The collection seems to have been growing lately?

Yeah, it was turning into evidence that could be used against me.

None, thank goodness. There was a spot in my eye for a couple of hours, but I think it was just from the pressure. It went away, and there's not even any indication that it was hit.

I did have to confess about saying a few bad works, though.

Everyone of us has done stupid things; and we will all do some more stupid things before we die. That's just one of the realities of life. Keeps us humble, I guess.

Can I add a 4th mistake to your list? Using the word egads on a gun forum

Just thought I'd mess with ya, glad your sight is still intact.

For some reason while reading the OP, I wasn't thinking "hope his eye is OK", but rather I was thinking of the scene in Superman Returns where the bad guy shoots Superman in the eye.

Glad no perm. damage to the eye.
