Well, I've been waiting on my form 4 for my AOW for about 7 months now, and I'm kinda starting to wonder what the heck happened to it. Anyone happen to know who to call? I tried to look the number up before, and had little to no luck finding it.

Make sure you have the SN for your item when you call. After 7 months I would ask to talk to the agent that is working your packet depending on what the lady that answers tell you.

When they answer I just tell them I am trying to check on the status of a form 1 or a form 4. I have one of each in the system now. The form one took a week to cash the check and 2 months just to get into the system and it has been almost 2 months since then. It has been almost 2 weeks and they have not cashed the check for the form 4 yet.

How did you pay for the transfer? check? money order? Have they cashed which ever one you used? 7 months seems a little long, even as back logged as they are. I would def. ask to speak to your examiner and see whats going on.

I paid with a check, which was cashed a week after I sent it. It did come back once, I have to admit, after about 3 months because the woman who did the fingerprints left a couple blanks (birthdate on one, place of birth on the other), but that was over 4 months ago, and I still haven't heard anything else on it. Seems kind of a long time when the only thing wrong was two blanks on the fingerprint cards, both of which were filled out on the other card. Thanks for the number guys, I'll give that a call and see what I can find out.

Next time get delivery confirmation. Not the kind they have to sign for but just regular confirmation. That way you will know it got there. I think it cost like .50 or .75 cents and well worth it in my opinion. Thats what I always do.

Im pretty sure you can call the NFA branch, and ask them to send you a certified copy. I have heard of this being done on lost form 4's. I would call back the ATF NFA branch (same number you used) and tell them it got lost in the mail. You will have to give them the make, model, serial number, and what not and ask them where you should go from here. Please keep us updated.

Kind of - call them and they'll tell you to send a signed request with the serial number asking for a copy (they call it certified or registered or something copy...). I had to do it because my dealer lost my paperwork :)

I think mine was something like this "Please send a certified copy of my Form 4 for SNxxxxx.

Thank you,

xxxx"

No need for an envelope because they'll send it in the same type they normally use to the address on the form. I don't recall them asking for postage.

BTW: I wonder if my mailman moonlights where you live? Could they all be the same?

I had to go pull it out before I made up too much BS :)

It's a 2-sided black & white copy w/ 2 additional wet signatures, and an embossed stamp "certified". Also, a short letter of acknowledgement came back with it.
