I just got back from the East Ridge City Council meeting. I was not going to get up and say anything, but after the City Manager's wife got up and said something against park carry, I had to. There was a motion to pass the resolution banning it, but nobody seconded it. Mayor Steele said "I am disappointed" Iwanted to say, well, I'm not! There is already a write up on the Chattanoogan.com 7/23/2009 - East Ridge Council Does Not Act To Ban Guns In Parks - Breaking News - Chattanoogan.com

nope, own pd, fd, city council, just trying to get the post office to recognize it. Not much coverage on the news about it, hoping better coverage is in the paper in the morning. The mayor is trying to see if they can bring it up again next month. I know a few that I will not be voting for next time. The mayor, city manager, and Councilman Sewell are three. I spoke with Lambert before the meeting and he said that he was going to vote against the res. Vice Mayor said he was against the res. too.

What with the big gun show meeting often at Camp Jordan there most be some monied people in ER who will support carry in parks. Now that ER and RB are onboard, I have hopes Walden will do the same.

Never even noticed a sign when driving over there.

I've often walked the levee/greenway trail from Brainerd over to Camp Jordan; didn't realize I was in another town there!

times free press online(Chattanooga Times Free Press | Home Page) has video of the meeting. It has the part where I talked holding my son. It also has the part where the City manager says "the security in the park is very good, in fact if someone feels threatened and calls 911, an officer will be there within 4 minutes" My question for him is "how much bad can happen in that 4 minutes? My wife, children, and myself could be dead on the foot path by the time the cops show up!" but not after September 1!

Not so fast. The E.R. City Council is going to vote on it again. The dumb ass Denny Manning thought by not voting it would kill it.

CAMP JORDAN is now a gun free zone, EAST RIDGE lost its balls and welcomes criminals to plague our town, well just inside our parks where permit holders are criminals if they are carrying a fire arm, i wonder if a ball bat is considered a deadly weapon, oops sarcasm and no more ball games. Does anyone know if the castle law covers boats, and if a boat is in a tributary or waterway is legal to carry if one has a ccw permit ? who has jurisdiction on the water other than state police and the USCG? Is our waterways under the jurisdiction of any towns or is that a state matter?

from my understanding, in a boat on the water is OK to carry. Isn't that correct fallguy? There are some other posts about that in here. do a search on the top for it. will come up at least a few times.

I wonder if its just firearms, or does the law include all deadly weapons, or all weapons? in the ban.

not sure if I will even attend. not that it will make much of a financial difference, but if several of us email the sponsor of the event and tell them that we are not attending and why, maybe that will. I don't know how well it will work, but hey...

I think if it is a navigable water way and/or waters where the TWRA has authority it is legal.

I am not familiar with Camp Jordan, if it there is a pond/lake that is entirely within the park, then I believe carry would be prohibited.

Here is a list of previous threads on carry in a boat.

What does that have to do with Camp Jordan?

Chattanooga Creek abuts part of it. I guess if you want to boat on Chattanooga Creek, you might well be legal (until you touch shore on park ground).
