Canon Powershot G10

Recommended Posts

I have been wanting to get into photography for a long time. I was going to buy a Nikon DSLR camera a few weeks ago, since I know little to nothing about photography I bought a Canon Power shot G10. This is a full manual 14.7 mega pixel camera with some very cool features. it shoots RAW and alot of other things, I go offshore next week and one of the guys I work with is a Professional photographer, as well as an ROV superintendent. He is the one that talked me into buying this camera. I have taken several pictures but when I go offshore I will take some HDR photos (with his help) and post them. Taking pictures is a hell of alot more fun than I ever thought it would be I am getting the Photography bug, Damn it another expensive habit

My Niece is going to Okinawa Japan for two years as a Nazarene missionary school teacher, in a few months I will get her to find prices for me for a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and some L lenses, hopefully they will be cheaper over there :D

So true. I've been a Canon fan since about 1972. I currently shoot a 40D and also use an XTi for work.

As for the G-10, that's a seriously nice point and shoot.

It has a lens equivalency of 28mm to 140mm with an iso setting up to 1600 for uber low light situations.

My favorite thing about the camera is the ability to shoot images in RAW format. If you ever get to the point where you start using Photoshop that is the way to save your images. RAW allows you to change the white balance, exposure stops, add fill lighting and other things AFTER you've already taken the pic.

Good luck on your purchase. There are some pretty good online places to buy, Adorama, Amazon, Tri State, Buydig...just remember if the deal sounds too good to be true, it is.

Here is a RAW photo of my Lead Tech and the Biggest Red Fish I have ever seen taken with a Nikon D90, then processed with HDR with Photomatic these look really cool, RAW photos are awesome and are what I love about digital

Yeah, doing HDR with RAW is the only way to go.

Here's a pretty simple street scene I did the same thing with. I first converted to B&W and then used Photomatix.

Very Nice pictures guys, since I have a Mac laptop, I guess I will get aperture 2 instead of photoshop, I am told that with it and photomatix along with my canon software that I should be able to do virtually everything I will ever need to with a digital camera?
