My friends dad use to shoot a lot of older black powder loads but no longer has the gun used. So my question is will black powder loads damage modern firearms. I know there will be a lot of fouling but other than that is there anyreason not to shoot them through a modern gun?

fouling is why you do not use them in modern design guns.

Modern DA revolvers are very difficult to detail strip, most I am sure never get detail stripped when using smokeless powders.

Semi auto guns would be a nightmare using BP. I suspect they would foul and jam within a few rounds. Again detail stripping would be needed.

The use of dyno based oils causing the severe fouling is the problem. If you used olive oil or vegetable oil the gun might run a little better. But then you get back to having to detail strip for cleaning.

BP is corrosive hence the need for a good cleaning after shooting it.

If you have BP supplies and thats why you are entertaining using it I would recommend buying gun made for the sacred black stuff. They are very affordable, revolvers start well under 200 bucks.

he is not going to hurt anything with properly loaded BP rounds, just it makes a mess and there is no sense in it.
