I have an old cabinet stereo, has a turntable, FM/AM stereo that is built into a real wood cabinet. When closed, it disappears, and then you can open the lid.

It is similar to this one below.

Is there a market for these? This one was my grandparents and is probably older than I am. It worked when I put it into my workshop several years ago.

Anybody have any knowledge about these things?

My grandparents had 1 when they were alive. Seeing something like that reminds me of my childhood.

I love it, reminds me of the 70's.

Wish I could find a "compact" stereo for the garage. Yanno, one with am/fm, 8 track and turntable built into one unit.

I still have two peach crates full of vinyl, nothing to play them on.

It may or may not have an 8 track, it might be older than 8 track!

I had a paper grocery bag packed full of 8 tracks up until about 5 years ago when I finally caved and threw them out. Can't bear to part with the records though.

My brother had a ton of them, he is 43, had all the good stuff, Ted Nugent, ACDC, Judas Priest, etc. I grew up listening to all that, due to he was older, I did what he did kinda stuff.

I would have gone out to look at it tonight, but due to the monsoon, I decided not to.

I saw a bunch of those at a thrift store a while back. they were selling for $35 - $70 depending on shape and feature.

Mike, if you're down to k'town check out one of the hhgregg's there. We sell a nostalgic radio with a turntable, cd player, and tape player for around $99. surprisingly, the turntable works well for that price point

thanks for that info, I may have to look into it if my mother in law can't find one at yard sales this summer.

Looks like it's from the early 60s.

I used to really dig these and had one in each room of an apartment from various decades. Eight track? If so that puts it in the 60's. I THINK yours may be from the late 50's, early 60's. It may be a Phillips, RCA, Motorola, Grundig or several other similar brands. Is it vacuum tube or solid state?

If it's tube it may be worth a few bucks, especially if the cabinet is in great shape. The big problem with these is the speakers. Small, cheap paper cones that don't stand up well to time.

Unless you find a collector of your particular brand, they really aren't going to get you much cash.

A quick search of one like I had said the value is about 100 bucks.

Sold...errr you were just saying hoe much it could be worth...dang.

I'll have to look to see what brand and if it is vacuum tubes or not.

It was raining like a cow piss'n on a flat rock last night, so I didn't go out to my shop.

The pic above is not the one I got, mine is similar, but not that one.

Sorry man, I'm B-R-O-K-E-!

I do think they're cool though. Maybe once I have a job again I'll add it to the list of stuff I need to check out!

I still remember the last car I had, that had an 8-track player in it... A '71 Mercury Comet GT. The thing looked like hell, but ran like a scalded ape. It was bright yellow, with the prerequisite rusted-out spots behind the rear fender wells... You know, the ones that made it so you had to be careful of what you threw in the trunk? :D

Funny how that seems like such a long time ago, in some respects, but only yesterday in others.
