Lost wallet

Recommended Posts

I recently had the unfortunate experience of losing my wallet. Strange how my 401K can drop thousands & while it's unpleasant, it doesn't really hurt that bad. Losing a wallet = real grief & sorrow.

Anyway - A little rant about DOT. 10 minutes on the computer, $8 charged on my wife's credit card, a new driver's license promised in 7 to 10 days, & a temporary print-out legal for driving imidiately.

Not so good for the CCW though. A phone # to call. They will mail me an application to be filled out & mailed back with $5. A new card should arrive within 90 days, & I wont be legal until it arrives. Hard to believe this is the same agency. Looks like I will pick a morning to go stand in line outside my local driver's license office at 6:30. (Still takes 90 days to get a plastic card, but I get a receipt that makes me legal.)

IMPORTANT ADVISE!!:

AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, TAKE ALL THE CARDS YOU CARRY IN YOUR WALLET OUT, LAY THEM ON A COPY MACHINE, & MAKE A LEAST 2 COPYS. FLIP THEM OVER IN ORDER, & REPEAT.

File them in 2 different safe places in case (or until) you need them.

I actually have a photo copy of my drivers license and carry permit hidden in my truck just in case. It wont be the same as the originals but hopefully it's proof that you have them.

When you renew your permit and waiting for your new card, your receipt will legally work as your card. I wonder, if you still have your receipt if that's legal enough to work if you have lost your wallet. I wouldn't completly trust what the DMV workers tell you.

I can't find anything on lost permits except how to obtain a duplicate. Here's the law on renewing and since your permit hasn't expired, I wonder if it will apply to you.

Permit Holders whose permit has not expired and are renewing their permit, may legally carry their handgun with the receipt provided from their application. Permit Holders whose permit have expired and are renewing their permit, cannot lawfully carry a handgun until they receive their new permit.
