My first time, major "stage fright". It's amazing what happens to the brain when the timer beeps. At least I know what to practice. Look at the front sight, not the target for one thing. All in all it's a lot of fun. I'll be bach ( ha ha). And yeah Robin kick a$$ again. He's goin' to be my coach.

I've never been to an IDPA match but a friend asked me about trying it. So do you just show up and see how bad you suck? Or should you get some type of training before your first match? How many rounds should you throw through a weapon before you should trust it to go to a match?

It sounds like something I would enjoy.

Go watch one and I'm sure you'll want to give it a try. Practice drawing up to target sight and reloading. Both tactical and from slide lock.

I practiced reloading and still turned into fumblefingers at my first match. But I'll be back next month.:tough:

Thanks Grout, somebody needs to keep me grounded!

To the question about training before a match, if you have solid SAFE gun handling skills you will enjoy an IDPA match, if you like the game and want to progress in skill faster there are instructors in the area that can help you on your way a little faster. Trust me when I say, as a safety officer, we are more interested in safety than your ability to blaze through a course of fire.

New shooters are more than welcome and if you let your SO know you are a newbie they will give you a little more attention. We all shot our first match at some point and know how it feels to be a "newbie".
