Cronkite was THE MAN. RIP

RIP. Its sad but I would say most people my age couldnt even tell you who he was. I think he was the last news anchor who didnt have a "side". These people on the news today should take a hint from him and just give us the news, not their opinion.

He was the "most trusted man in America". Turns out he was a committed liberal. I wonder what he'd been lying to us about all those years?

He had a side, very far to the left.

I have no idea what his politics were but he was a fixture of evening news when I was a kid. Sorry to see him go regardless of politics.

There are very few people whom I think should die simply because I disagree with their opinion.

Did he have a side reporting Man's first walk on the Moon?

No, but he sure did reporting that we basically lost the Vietnam war during the Tet Offensive and his comment was pretty much credited with fueling the anti-war movement back then.

LBJ was quoted that one of the reasons he didn't seek reelection was that "if we lost Cronkite, we've lost middle America."

Maybe so, but he didn't let it influence his reporting as the evening anchor on CBS. I grew up watching him, and never had any idea about his personal politic until after he retired from CBS in 1981.

And the communists were the overall losers of the Tet Offensive.

Tet Offensive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A great deal has been said by historians concerning how the news media made Tet the "turning point" in the public's perception of the war. Popular CBS anchor Walter Cronkite stated during a news broadcast on February 27, "We have been too often disappointed by the optimism of the American leaders, both in Vietnam and Washington, to have faith any longer in the silver linings they find in the darkest clouds" and added that, "we are mired in a stalemate that could only be ended by negotiation, not victory."[183]

Sounds like a "side" to me. Definitely not unbiased news reporting.
