Carry in Las Vegas

Has anyone here been to Las Vegas recently, taken a weapon with you, and carried it while you were there? I'm going to be there next week.

Check it for yourself, but I think TN permits are good in Nevada. The Casinos frown on packing, as far as I know. I have not been in years, but if you are staying in the tourist parts of town and don't stray from the main drag you will most likely not need a weapon. The security in Vegas is top notch and if you pulled a gun on the strip or in a casino the security people would probably shoot you pretty quick. My advice would be go, have a great time and leave your gun at home. If you truly feel the need for a weapon buy a can of pepper spray when you arrive and toss it before flying home.

I agree with gunsablazin, however I will add that if you think you might get off the beaten path very far, it would be wise to have some form of self defense with you. But honestly, there are only two things in Vegas that would take you that far off the beaten path and both are illegal and immoral.

Thanks for your replies. I called the LVPD yesterday afternoon and was told by a lady in the Concealed Carry Unit that NV honors TN carry permits, and they are an open carry state. She indicated carrying would be no problem as long as I had my permit and didn't carry anywhere I wasn't supposed to. We're going to rent a car a couple of days and head out of town to do some sightseeing, and I'd like to have my revolver with me.

I also called Southwest today to make sure I understood the procedure for transporting a weapon. They were very helpful as well.

If you go east to sightsee, you may want to check Arizona laws.

OpenCarry.org lists Nevada a a "gold star" state: "Fully preempted open carry permitted on foot and in vehicles without a license; localities fully preempted."

Well, you have to have permit to CC in Nevada, but of course the part about "brandishing" wouldn't seem to be right since OC is allowed without one.

He said positively no. He told me a story about how they spotted a FBI agent carrying and they disarmed him there in the casino. He may have been lying to me, I don't know. The Wynn may be posted. I don't know that either. Nevada does reconize Tenn. permits. Watch out for the postings and keep it concealed and I think you will okay.

Last time I was there, 5 years ago you were in Fact allowed to carry CONCEALED in casinos as long as they were not posted, as far as I know this still holds true, you can research the link I posted to find out for sure

"public building" is the term for govt. buildings

No mention of private biz being able to post that I could see.

Lord knows I wish it were this way in TN.

I was there last month. I stayed at the Monte Carlo for 6 days, carried all 6 days with no issues. It is an open carry state, but I wouldn't suggest that on the strip. Lots of sheeple from California and you might get asked to leave from your hotel, and that would be a huge burden.

Off the strip, OC all you want.

If a building is posted it's not legal, UNLESS it's a government building. If you get made in a building that is posted all they can do is ask you to leave. If you don't leave fast enough that's where you will get in legal trouble.

Now a Pro Tip:

For the most part the strip is pretty safe. However I learned a very important lesson while in Vegas. My Mom and my Wife were giving me crap (My Mom because she's scared of guns, and my Wife because I was printing and she was afraid we would get asked to leave) about carrying the first day there.

I decided to care more about what they thought, and please them instead of being a responsible Husband and Father. Right after that discussion, I left my gun in the safe and walked by myself to meet everybody at a restaurant. I wasn't even 100 feet from the hotel when 3 guys pulls up in a car right next to me, somewhat blocking my way and asks me if I want to buy a watch.

There was nobody around, and judging by the way they were looking at me, and sizing me up, I felt this was going to end up bad. I instinctively went for my gun on my hip. It was the WORST feeling not having my gun.

As soon as the driver saw me reach for my hip they took off around the corner. Not even 50 feet from that spot, 30 seconds later, another D-Bag pulls over next to me and offers me a dime bag of weed. I didn't feel threatened by this guy so it was such a big deal, but still. I told him to go pound sand and he did.

I decided to go back up to my room and grab my gun. I felt really stupid for leaving it at the hotel, and mostly for giving in to other people. Never again.

I'm always glad to hear of a person who gets a helpful response for trying to make sure he's following the law. Gotta love it when the system works the way it should.

Casino security is pretty up tight and with good reason. I can't imagine them allowing CC....especially in the casino area.

They also watch very closely looking for cheats and for thieves stealing from other gamblers. I would think that there's a really good chance of getting made if you go armed in the casino area of the motel. That said, who really needs to go armed in the casino area? Security is pretty heavy with static and roving gaurds.

Was there last month for a week. CC'd everywhere. Wynn's security must be slacking. Seriously though, no problems anywhere.

While you're there be sure to check out Fremont St. - Old Vegas. Better prices on everything and a different crowd. See if the Summer of 69 is still going on because if it is, there are 4 stages with bands playing. One guy looked and played like Hendrix. Great fun!

I'd say that guy is full of crap. If there was an FBI agent in there carrying he isn't going to be disarmed. Most casino security is nothing like mall cops, but they are not going to disarm a federal agent.

Casino security is very tight, but focused on a different objective - that is how much a given customer is spending and whether or not they or anyone around them is cheating. Your entire experience in the casino is based on your spending level. Most have thousands of cameras in place, and can track your every move in the public areas and gaming areas.

Most casinos are not formally posted, but any of them can ask a customer to leave at any time.

As long as you go to Vegas knowing that the house is always going to win if you play long enough, and yet you go because you enjoy the experience, go and have a great time. I can never seem to get past that. For me, the only thing worth seeing in Vegas is 35 miles away at Hoover Dam, and that is a sight well worth seeing.

Great place... just got back last week! no need to carry if your on the strip.... but if u go to the old strip or downtown..... it can get pretty rough..... i mean ROUGH..... beggers everywhere!!
