The bag limit is different depending on what county you are hunting. All counties are classified into 3 units. You have to figure out what unit your county falls in and then abide by the limits set for that county.

For example, the land that you and I hunted last year is in Hardeman county which is "Unit L", and allows a hunter to take 3 does a day and only one buck a day and not to exceed 2 bucks for the entire season. So will be hunting in Shelby county and we will need to look at which Unit it falls into.

Also a doe is not required first in TN. Some states do require this, but Tennessee is not one of them.

I am typing this from my phone, so I will look on the TWRA website and find out more info for you.

As mentioned above, laws are laws. Follow them to the letter.

That said, TWRA tries to make laws to achieve certain goals. If you're in an area that encourages shooting bucks and not shooting does, you're in an area that is looking for MORE deer instead of big deer.....here's why....

If you have 16 doe to 1 buck, you're gonna have 16 pregnant doe to one very happy buck. If you have 10 doe to 3 bucks you're gonna have 10 pregnant doe to 3 bucks that must fight it out for time with the babes.

Buck to doe ratios and when to allow killing of does is what dictates the herd. Having a small number of bucks won't cut down on the number of spring fawns. Having a small number of does WILL.

with the 3 does a day, is that just 3 does for the season but they give you have the option to get them all in one day?

Not exactly clear on that one.

I'm hunting Unit L as well.

Thanks for the info,

In unit L, you are still allowed 3 antlerless per day. I haven't personally achieved a 'triple' in one day, but know hunters who have. Needless to say their freezers were stocked well. In unit L, you could kill enough does over the season to fill a semi trailer.

I don't care about any of that but, I do want pick of the litter from clutepc's litter of Beagle/Coon's! Maybe that would be a Ceagle or a Boon. Anyway, what a great mix of animal that would chase and tree itself!

Unit "L" allows 3 does per day for archery and muzzle loader season. Once gun season starts you will need a special permit (type 94) to take any anterless deer during gun season. If you have a type 94 then you get the 3 a day. If you have a sportsmans you are covered. I think the permit by itsself is something like $5 so it is really not a bad deal. I did the math one time and in order to absolutly tag our for deer season you would have to shoot something like 300 does plus 3 bucks. I think they would make Hunters for the Hungry pretty happy.

I have not hit the 3 in one day (not sure I want to clean that much). I have taken 2 right at dusk and it makes for a long night.

One or two a day is just fine with me.

I'd be happy with 1 in the bow season, just would like to get the first one down, then I'll feel a little better after my "0" with the Turkey...lol
